Each April, Black Maternal Health Week brings awareness to the crisis that has been ignored for too long. The rising number of deaths in childbirth is a real issue across the nation, especially for Black women and Black birthing people, and the first step to address the crisis is addressing that any solution has to be multi-faceted, and patient-centered.

Take the time this Black Maternal Health Week 2026 to educate yourself how racism directly impacts maternal health outcomes: https://bit.ly/2VSf7xk

Black women deserve sexual and reproductive health care that reflects the full reality of their lives – not just clinical visits, but relationships, decision-making, access, and long-term support.

That's why Planned Parenthood of Maryland is launching the Black Women’s Health Equity Initiative (BWHEI) to create space to listen and learn directly from Black women and girls about their sexual and reproductive health care experiences across their entire life course.

Join PPM and BWHEI in these in-person and virtual conversations, with participants receiving stipends and meals for their time.

Last week, Planned Parenthood of Maryland was honored to attend the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to celebrate Women's History Month. There we got to see former PPM board member and the mother of Plan B, the late Dr. Sharon Camp, inducted for revolutionizing birth control.

It's impossible to overstate what a gamechanger in sexual and reproductive care that Plan B was, and how important it still is today to providing patients control over their bodies and futures. And while we still mourn the loss of Dr. Camp, it was moving to honor her and other Maryland figures in a room full of advocates for women, including Michelle Siri and former Maryland Senator Delores Kelley, the 52nd speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and family members of Dr. Camp.

“Congratulations to Planned Parenthood of Maryland Board Member, Lynne Durbin, for her appointment to the Board of Directors at Planned Parenthood Federation of America! For almost 10 years, she has set the gold standard for how board members can make meaningful changes within an organization. We are so proud of Lynne, and are excited to see the impact she makes at PPFA to advance our mission of providing accessible, compassionate, and comprehensive health care – no matter what.”

On Trans Day of Visibility, we celebrate the joy and resilience of transgender, non-binary and gender-expansive individuals.

We know that visibility alone is not enough. As the United States becomes increasingly hostile to marginalized communities, increased visibility means trans people regularly face discrimination, barriers to health care, and anti-trans violence.

To our trans patients, staff, and supporters: Planned Parenthood of Maryland continues to stand with you and your right to make decisions about your body, life, and future.
