Since the characteristics of personal training and coaching are different with each individual, if we work together, you will notice that I am constantly observing and verifying how your body moves in an attempt to design the best workout for you. Therefore I work hard to alleviate the pain of structuring your workout, and to overcome the obstacle of motivational ups and downs. You will gain energy, and feel valued for your effort, and reach concrete benefits like a change in your body shape. Today’s world demands you are healthy enough to perform the specific tasks asked of you at work, sitting, traveling on a train, or driving a car. Whether you are going to the movies with your kids, or enjoying a hike on the weekend. My mission as your trainer is to give you the support to function in all of the contexts you want. I can help you with a specific task like learning how to walk again after a trauma, or birth injury. At the same time, I can help you solve the problem of back pain, or other chronic pain you have. On the flip side of pain, I can help you to eat healthy and make healthier lifestyle choices. The specific needs you seek can be achieved. When I work with a client, I try to create a good and secure feeling in our relationship; I appreciate your investment in achieving better health and movement. What makes people feel bad about exercising is rarely the exercise; it’s the lack of a plan, the headache of missing a workout and not knowing how hard to be on your self. Trust me, I am human, and I have missed plenty of workouts myself. The fear of missing a workout, or being afraid of eating the extra cookie, can lead to worry. When you understand exactly how much that cookie affects you, in the big picture very little, you might decide you can afford to feel good about yourself. How you gauge your success with me will be unique. We can define the results you expect, and integrate them into the outcomes you will get from training. We will align your vision with your exercise mindset to identify a clear process and the tools needed to be successful.

The Map Is Not The Territory:

Is the map of reality, reality itself? Is the reason to eat more carbs, more protein, exercise more, and exercise less- reality? There is a season for everything to flourish. We are coming out of summer where activity was high and likely eating took a back seat unless you were a delicious barbeque.

My point is a question: how do you make better decisions (about your health and style of living)?

The need to stay healthy and vibrant is most needed in today’s world. The pace of living is high and the demands on your time and energy is ever increasing. Right?

We reduce the world down to a simple model that helps us function successfully. We create rules or ways of living that simplify things. Some call it a reduction in decision fatigue.

At some point, it is helpful to simplify life. At another point in the spectrum, you are being lazy and rigid and creating a haze around putting more effort into daily living.

Where in your life do you need to vary your routine a bit? Do you need a different point of view on your exercises? Do you see something you tell yourself you change but you are uncertain how? Do you tell yourself that keeping up with your routines will pave the path?

Contentment, Detachment, and Achievement. The 3-in-1.

When I was a young boy one of my favorite activities was action. Anything that required movement and required me to concentrate my focus on my proprioceptive awareness was good. Apparently, when I would walk around, and this started when I first started talking, I would walk around and point my fing...

Hello my friends,

Over the past 5 years, I have been operating my business out of a studio in Timonium. The space provided me an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. However, it is time for me to make a change in location.
As of September 21st, 2016 I am operating out of Arenal Fitness in Quarry Lake at Greenspring. Arenal Fitness offers Crossfit classes and personal training sessions. To learn more about the space and its owners, check out their website: www.ArenalFitness.com.

I am eager to explore the opportunities renting space in Arenal affords me. You can check out my website at www.DominicSessa.com to learn more about the current opportunities to work together through personal training, bodywork, and coaching sessions.

So please, send me and the folks at Arenal Fitness good vibes! I am excited to take my next step into their studio and to bring the next generation of training to my clients.

Cheers,
Dominic

Personality Types, Myers-Briggs, and Me. Oh, My!

In her book The 8 Colors of Fitness by Suzanne Brue she outlines the main types according to the MBTI type indicator and it’s overlap to health and fitness. Her book is an attempt to answer the question, “What keeps people in a regular exercise program year after year while others drop out?” The chapters of her book are broken down into:

1. Finding your fitness personality
2. Motivation: why do you exercise?
3. Approach and focus: how do you exercise and engage your mind?
4. Environment and interpersonal connections
5. Putting it all together

In July of this past year, I attended a four-day training put on by CPP, Inc., the exclusive publisher of the MBTI assessment. CPP, Inc., the publisher of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator tool, has been researching, improving, and publishing the MBTI assessment for over 50 years. CPP, Inc. started when one psychology professor from Stanford and one from U.C. Berkley came together with a common goal: to use research-based psychological assessments to give people the insight and guidance they need to develop in both their personal and professional lives. The MBTI instrument was created by the pioneering work of Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. The theory of psychological types comes from Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung (1875-1961) who wrote that what appears to be random behavior is actually the result of differences in the way people prefer to use their mental capacities. Jung observed that people generally engage in one of two mental functions:

1. Taking in information, which he called perceiving or
2. Organizing information and coming to conclusions, which he called judging

“When people differ, a knowledge of type lessens friction and eases strain. In addition, it reveals the value of differences. No one has to be at everything.” Isabel Briggs Myers

Why would a personal trainer take a psychological typing course? What did I learn at the MBTI training? How does this apply to Dominic’s training style? What is special about the book The 8 Colors of Fitness by Suzanne Brue?
