March is National Women’s History Month, a time to honor the women who have shaped our history and the women who inspire and support us every day.
This month, we also recognize survivors of domestic violence and the advocates who stand beside them, working to uplift their voices and bring awareness to this critical issue.
Today, we highlight the work of artist Marta Pérez-García, originally from Puerto Rico and now based in Washington, D.C. Through her powerful art, Marta brings attention to domestic violence and tells the stories of women whose lives were taken by gender-based violence. Her work ensures these women are remembered for who they were—their lives, identities, and stories—not only the tragedy of how they died.
Much of Marta’s work reflects the growing crisis in Puerto Rico, where domestic violence and femicides have increased in recent years, particularly following Hurricane Maria. Through creativity and advocacy, she continues to shine a light on this issue and honor the women whose voices deserve to be heard.
Art can be a powerful tool for awareness, remembrance, and change.

Compassion in crisis. Advocacy in action.
It’s Social Work Month and we’re celebrating the people who show up when it matters most.
When someone is in danger.
When a family feels overwhelmed.
When trauma feels too heavy to carry alone.
Our social workers step in with steady support, real solutions, and unwavering care.
At Springboard Community Services, this isn’t just a job. It’s a mission.
To every social worker making an impact behind the scenes and on the front lines, we see you. We thank you. We celebrate you.

We’re proud to share that our Safe House Advocate, Kristi Cosby, graduated last week from the Roper Victim Assistance Academy!
The Roper Academy is an intensive, week-long training program designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and connections of victim advocates across Maryland. Through in-depth instruction, collaboration, and community-building, the Academy equips advocates with the tools needed to better serve and support survivors.
Kristi shared this about her experience:
“Attending the Roper Victim Assistance Academy was an amazing experience. The Roper Academy is set up to not only teach but to build a strong community of victim advocates. I learned a great deal and have gained a community of friends with valuable knowledge that has inspired me!”
We are incredibly proud of Kristi’s dedication to professional growth and her commitment to building strong, supportive networks for the survivors we serve.

Lester Blackwell Granger was a social worker who believed in the power of opportunity and access. As a leader within the National Urban League, he focused on employment, housing, and economic stability for Black families.
His work helped define social work as both direct service and systems-level change. Granger’s legacy continues to shape how the field addresses equity, economic justice, and community empowerment.
