self-quarantine is a great time to implement changes in your lifestyle habits :)
you've probably used a in the shower - but they're even better in the kitchen! I use my all-natural loofah , cut into small, circular pieces, as my all-purpose dish sponge, and i LOVE it. here's why:
1. it grew from the ! wait... what even is a loofah? loofah, or , is the fibrous structure of a tropical fruit related to the cucumber. the fruit is edible in it's earlier days, but as it ripens it becomes very tough and fibrous. when allowed to fully ripen, dry out, and then be stripped of it's exterior skin, we're left with the loofah you're familiar with - no manufacturing, processing, or modifications necessary :)
2. it never smells bad. the loofah softens when wet, and holds soapy water well, but it also dries quickly and doesn't create conditions for bacterial growth. I use mine for months and they never stink!
3. it's super affordable - you can buy a full loofah online for less than $10 and you may be able to find it for even less at a local international market. depending on the size of your loofah, you may cut it into 10-20 small dish sponges. that will easily last you a full year or more!
4. it's ! when I'm done with a sponge (each one lasts me a few months) I simply throw it in the - it's no tougher to decompose than a regular fibrous vegetable.
5. it's tough but non-abrasive, so it won't scratch delicate surfaces or coatings. the loofah fibers are firm and textured - great for scrubbing hardened food, pans, & even cast iron - but they soften when wet and will never scratch.

I've been a dedicated for almost ten years! though I don't have the time or yard space to myself... I subscribe to a company that collects my compost weekly. here's why I think is so important, and why I'm willing to add an extra line item to my budget for this service
1. landfill waste:
landfills are hugely overcrowded; and the excess of plastics and non-biodegradable materials create conditions in which even the biodegradable "trash" cannot decompose. these dumpsites are growing endlessly with no practical or actual reduction.
2. methane gas emission:
the *very* slow decomposition of biodegradable waste in landfills happens in anaerobic conditions, leading to the production of methane gas, which contributes to environmental heat retention 20x more than carbon dioxide. when food waste is properly composted, the *aerobic* decomposition that occurs in proper composting conditions produces heat, water, and carbon dioxide (C02), which your nourished plants will convert back into oxygen!
3. fertilizer production:
commercial production of fertilizer is an energy-intensive process. by nourishing soils with compost instead, we reduce pollution from fertilizer production, save money, and prevent runoff toxins from polluting our environment even more.
4. nutrients:
instead of wasting all the unused nutrients from your unfinished foods (not to mention the inedible rinds, cores, skins, bones, etc.), these valuable natural treasures are returned to the earth to nourish more edible foods.
5. guilt:
never again will we have to finish our plates even after we're full - knowing that our unused foods go back into the ecosystem, we can compost our excess guilt-free!

our grocery store station delivering a dire message
all over the country, USA lacks facilities and market to actually the waste that we send in for recycling. I just learned that my local municipal recycling center has been unable to process glass recyclables for six years! and no solution on the horizon. rather than continue to foster the false promise of recycled waste, our local grocery store collection unit is calling attention to the WASTE CRISIS we are facing. recycling is only better than garbage if it can be properly processed! yes, continue to recycle where and what you can, but more importantly: and

do you procrastinate?
are you a procrastinator?
loving this podcast today!
"everyone procrastinates, but not everyone is a procrastinator." fully 20% of the population are chronic procrastinators. what's the difference? where does it come from? (spoiler alert: fathers Jason Armstrong Baker) and if you are a procrastinator, what can you do about it?

“Everyone procrastinates, but not everyone is a procrastinator,” quoth Dr. Joe Ferrari, a charming, hilarious expert on the subject. The research psychologist, author and DePaul University professor sits down for a truly delightful exploration of why we procrastinate, how prevalent it is, when i...
