Not everyone feels joyful or festive during the holiday and that’s okay. This season can bring up grief, stress, loneliness, or exhaustion. It’s okay to set boundaries, take breaks, and care for yourself in the ways you need. This is your reminder that you're allowed to move through the holidays in a way that feels right for you. ❤️

Long live the spirit of my ancestors- my grandfather Mr. Benjamin Leo Fauntleroy, Jr. who helped raise me until he was murdered in Sandtown in 1990. He kept me safe and he LOVED me. That’s a major reason why I am who I am today.

After my granddad died, I moved in ‘Poppleton Coop’ which is now called ‘Vintage Gardens’ with my grandmother (my grandparents were married but separated for many years).

My grandmother made sure I went to Catholic school - because she didnt want me to be in the schools in my neighborhood.

She made sure of that from grade 3 to grade 12. I begged her to let me go to Poly for high school but she was like ‘Seton Keough or Notre Dame Prep’ took my talents from the terrace to Keough for 4 years. ✊🏿

Even when she didn’t have tuition money - she sent me. Her advocacy caused outside sources to financially invest in my catholic school education.

My grandparents started my ‘campaign’ in my Lor Scoota voice. They’re the reason I’ll ALWAYS be Jessica Fauntleroy. Fauntleroy is my grandfathers family last name and I carry it proudly.

They’re straight outta Sandtown - born in the late 1940’s but they had vision.
