To raise the level of awareness in the community about the needs of Jewish people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Workshops on deaf awareness help educate and sensitize people who interact with people who have a hearing loss. One popular workshop is "How to Best Communicate with People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (Including some fun signs!)" This is a special workshop tailored to your organiz
ation's needs and is available at no charge for school staff, students, organizations and agency staff professional development. The JADE interpreter fund:
-Grants $50 towards interpreter expenses for eligible Jewish community events
-Supports local Jewish schools that have people with hearing loss among their parent body. Through JADE, schools can book an interpreter for parents who are deaf or hard of hearing at school-related events such as orientations, parent-teacher conferences, school plays and other milestones. Most recently we are working to promote CAPTIONS on Jewish videos through advocacy, technology training and some funding. JADE was also instrumental in running the first ever DEAFBLIND Shabbatons for Deafblind Jews from across the United States and Israel, right here in Baltimore, MD.
