Aisha Ellis, ANP-BC, MSN, RN successfully defended her dissertation, advancing critical insight into health care access among returning citizens living with mental illness.

Her work explores the intersection of health systems, reentry, and mental health, uncovering the barriers individuals face and the opportunities to design care that is more accessible, connected, responsive, equitable, and just.

This is what it looks like when nursing leads, asking harder questions, elevating real experiences, and driving solutions that reach beyond individual care to influence systems as a whole.

Join us in celebrating this milestone!

Happy 410 Day💙

Baltimore has always been a city that shapes what’s next — through its people, its history, and its commitment to care.

At the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, we’re proud to be part of that legacy. For generations, this school has prepared nurses who don’t just practice. They lead, they advocate, and they help move health forward across Baltimore and beyond.

Rooted in this beautiful charm city. Guided by its strength and resilience. Carrying its impact forward.

The latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report are in and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing continues to lead.

#1 Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the nation
#2 Master’s program, holding strong among the very best

Across specialties, our programs are not only maintaining excellence but advancing. Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Nursing Administration programs are now ranked #1, clear signals of our leadership in preparing nurses who shape systems, policy, and care delivery.

Multiple programs continue to rank in the top three nationally, reflecting both the depth and breadth of our work across specialties. We are also expanding our impact, with new recognition for our DNP Leadership program, further demonstrating our commitment to preparing nurses to lead in increasingly complex healthcare environments.

These rankings tell a clear story. We are not standing still. We are sustaining excellence where we lead and continuing to move forward where it matters most, from community-based care to research that informs policy and improves lives.

This work is made possible by a community that believes in what nursing can do.

Because when nursing leads, health moves forward.

A message worth sharing.

At a time when health systems are under pressure and the future of care is being shaped in real time, nursing leadership matters more than ever.

Our Manifesto for Nursing Leadership captures that moment and the vision behind our Focus Forward campaign — a belief that nurses are not just part of the system, they help build what comes next for health.

Every path into healthcare starts somewhere.

For many, it begins with the courses that build the foundation, not just academically, but in how you begin to understand health, science, and the systems that shape outcomes.

At Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, our prerequisite courses are designed to do more than prepare you for what’s next. They are built to introduce you to the rigor, expectations, and possibilities of a career in health.

This is where many journeys begin.

April marks National Minority Health Month.

Health outcomes are shaped by more than individual choices.
They are influenced by access, environment, resources, and the systems that determine who receives care and how.

This month is a reminder that improving health requires a broader lens. One that considers the full context of people’s lives and the structures that impact them.

Through research, education, and policy, the focus remains on advancing solutions that address these realities and preparing nurses to lead where change is needed most.
