Medical Receptionist Job Description
We are looking to hire a Medical Receptionist with excellent organizational and administrative skills. Medical Receptionists are expected to be compassionate and discrete with superb time management and record keeping skills.
To ensure success, Medical Receptionists should be confident and professional administrators with fantastic communication and interpersonal skills that will contribute to the efficient day-to-day administration of the healthcare facility. Also will be responsible for verifying insurance coverage, eligibility, benefits, obtaining authorizations and pre-certs as required by the individual insurance company.
Medical Receptionist Responsibilities:
• Greet and attend to patients in person and over the phone.
• Professionally assist doctors, staff, visitors and patients.
• Answer all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
• Perform all duties within HIPAA regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of all doctor, staff and patient information.
• Schedule appointments between doctors and patients.
• Verify that sufficient information is available for accurate verification and eligibility.
• Determine if a secondary insurance should be added to the patient account ensuring the appropriate payer is selected for Primary insurance.
• Utilize the centers selected vendor for claims and eligibility and/or individual payer websites to obtain eligibility, benefits and/or pre-certs and authorization information.
• Enter the patient insurance information into patient accounting system ensuring the selection is the appropriate payer and associated financial class.
• The insurance verifier will document the findings in the patient account and will contact the patient with either estimated co-insurance, co-pay and or deductible amounts due on or before the date of service as applicable.
• The Insurance Verifier will call patients as needed to review patient responsibilities with regard to payment.
Medical Receptionist Requirements:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• 2 years of experience at a healthcare facility in a Medical Receptionist role (essential).
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, ICD and CPT coding (highly advantageous).
• Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
• Strong organizational, administrative and planning skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and react effectively to emergency situations.
• Ability to use discretion while working with sensitive information.
• Excellent documentation, communication and IT skills, computer skills with data entry software
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively on the phone, in writing and via email
