Northern Light Sports Health Northern Light Sports Health is Greater Bangor's resource for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for athletes of all ages.

Northern Light Sports Health is the only comprehensive sports medicine program in the Greater Bangor area. We specialize in the care, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of common sports-related injuries to athletes of all ages. Our experienced team of professionals offers quick patient access, accurate injury assessment, and comprehensive injury management that includes orthopedics, sports medicine, primary care, and neuropsychology. We also provide timely and thorough communication for parents, coaches, and athletes.

We are especially grateful for our own Dr. Thompson and Dr. Graeff, whose unwavering support, accessibility, and dedication to our Sports Health program make a meaningful difference in the lives of our athletes. Their willingness to collaborate, guide, and be available when it matters most ensures that our athletes receive the highest level of care possible.

Happy National Athletic Training Month to Erica Marsters, ATC, OPE-C!

Erica has been a member of the Northern Light Sports Health team for 9 ½ years, providing athletic training services to Wagner Middle School, Reeds Brook Middle School, and the Penobscot Pioneers Girls Ice Hockey Team. She recently stepped into a new role as Secretary for the Maine Athletic Trainers’ Association, continuing to support and advance the profession.

Outside of work, Erica enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying active outdoors through camping, golfing, and fishing, and adventuring in the woods or along the ocean with her dog, River Brown.

Happy National Athletic Training Month to Jared Hoxie, ATC!

Jared joined the Northern Light Sports Health team about a year ago after graduating from the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s in Athletic Training in 2024. He provides dedicated care to his alma mater, Brewer High School, and athletes throughout the greater Bangor communities.

When he’s not supporting athletes, Jared enjoys hiking, spending the day baking, and hanging out with friends and family—often on shopping trips! 🛍️

Emily has been part of the Northern Light Sports Health program for about three years and recently earned her Master’s degree this past year—a great accomplishment! She provides athletic training services to Hampden Academy and supports athletes throughout the greater Bangor communities.

Brianna has been part of the Northern Light Health Sports Health program for over three years, bringing valuable experience from her time working with the University of Maine Club Sports teams at Cutler Health Center. She currently provides athletic training services to Bangor High School and supports athletes throughout the greater Bangor community.

Happy National Athletic Training Month to Sara Mitchell, ATC! 🎉

Sara has been an integral part of the Northern Light Health team for the past 7½ years. Before joining our program, she spent a year as an athletic trainer at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Today, she provides athletic training services to Belfast Area High School and supports athletes throughout the greater Bangor communities.

Sara also recently stepped into the role of Treasurer for the Maine Athletic Trainers’ Association, continuing her commitment to advancing the profession.

Outside of work, Sara enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and exploring new places, golfing, hiking, kayaking, and cooking.

Congratulations to Erica Marsters, LAT, ATC, OPE-C on being this year’s recipient of the Bill Cox Service Award. This award from the Maine Athletic Trainers’ Association recognizes a certified athletic trainer or other athletic health care provider who has enhanced athletic health care and made significant contributions to the professional development and advancement of the athletic training profession. Criteria for this award includes:
• Inspires others through his or her dedication, commitment and work ethic;
• Maintains the highest level of professional service and standards of professional practice;
• Has provided outstanding service to their employer and to the profession of athletic training;
• Have, through his or her actions, helped to create a better environment for their colleagues, athletes/patients, and community
