On Saturday, we had the honor of attending the Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism in Augusta—where individuals from our Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft, and Millinocket teams were recognized for an incredible 1,400+ combined volunteer hours supporting the Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA)🙌

Our teams help deliver Meals on Wheels, serve warm meals at the Community Café in Brewer, and assemble monthly pet food kits for the Furry Friends Food Bank—all vital services that EAAA provides to seniors across Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties.

For more than a decade, these dedicated volunteers have worked side by side with community members—consistently showing up with kindness, compassion, and dedication!

Their service is a powerful reminder of what community integration, and the spirit of inclusion looks like.

Thank you EAAA for nominating us for this award and for the years of partnership!

We are so proud of every single team member whose hard work and heart have made a difference. Here's to over 10 years of making an impact—and to many more to come!

🎉🎉🎉Today is an exciting day for Living Innovations🎉🎉🎉

We are proud to share that our volunteer teams from Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft, and Millinocket will be attending the Governor’s Service Awards Ceremony in Augusta today!

These three amazing teams have been selected as the Outstanding Volunteer Team for the 2025 Governor’s Service Awards🏆

Here’s a little excerpt from the announcement we received:

"Your team’s long-standing partnership with the Eastern Area Agency on Aging—delivering meals, supporting the Community Café, and preparing pet food kits for the Furry Friends Food Bank—demonstrates how inclusive volunteerism strengthens entire communities. The 1,400+ hours your team contributed in 2024 alone speaks volumes, and the kindness your volunteers bring to each task is truly irreplaceable."

We couldn’t be prouder of the individuals we support and the incredible impact they have made in their communities!

If you’d like to tune in and celebrate with us, the ceremony will be live streamed starting at 1 PM today.

Every day, Mosaic employees witness the life-enhancing care that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive because of Medicaid funding. It’s why Health Services Manager Jolene is passionate about advocacy.

She writes, “Medicaid helps the people I support meet their basic human needs. It is certainly not extravagant by any means, but it allows them to pay for their basic living expenses, doctor’s visits, and necessary medications. Without Medicaid funding, thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities would have nothing—no home, no access to healthcare, no medication. These are human beings with families, friends—with so much love to give.”

Join Jolene in making your voice heard; visit MosaicAlliedVoices.org and select “Become an Advocate.”

🚓 We were thrilled to welcome members of the Pittsfield Police Department - Maine to our Newport office recently!

Everyone had a great time learning about the everyday responsibilities of a police officer, swapping stories, and even trying on some of the gear they use on the job👮‍♂️

It was a fun and educational day, and a wonderful opportunity to connect with and show appreciation for the first responders who help keep our communities safe. Thank you, Pittsfield PD 💙

Mosaic supports 5,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and 4,500 of them receive home- and community-based services (HCBS), which allow them to receive the support they need to live and contribute to their communities, at home.

States are required to offer nine benefits through Medicaid and can elect to offer 21 optional services, including HCBS. Because Medicaid operates as a state-federal partnership, if the federal government reduces Medicaid funding, states may be forced with the difficult decision to cut back services like HCBS.

Did you know that Medicare and private health insurance plans typically only cover acute care? Medicaid, however, covers both acute and long-term care. Nearly all of the more than 5,000 people supported by the Living Innovations require lifelong care, with Medicaid being the primary source of funding. Many will increasingly depend on Medicaid funding for support as their parents age or are unable to provide them with the level of care they need, highlighting the urgent need to advocate for Medicaid funding.

Who We Are

Living Innovations has been supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families for over twenty years. It has been a dramatic period of growth at all levels: for the people we support, their supportive caregivers, and the organization. It helps to look at Living Innovations’ history in a broader, exciting context of the expansion of human rights in our country, and sweeping changes in the way society views people with disabilities.

We have much to be proud of for our part in this “revolution”. Living Innovations has supported 100’s of people to move from segregated settings into a natural home with a Shared Living Provider. Hundreds of others have transitioned successfully from their childhood homes to another family-kind of setting or to independent living. In fact, Living Innovations has led the way in advancing the shared living approach in the provider community to the great benefit of so many.

Responding to the intentions of our funding sources and the desires of people with disabilities we also produced and fashioned Community Connections. The program ensures that people have not only a supportive home, but opportunities to become truly involved in their communities- as employees, volunteers, church members, activists, and friends.
