May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness about the importance of early detection. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., but it’s also one of the most treatable when caught early.

We’re proud to join the American Academy of Dermatology in encouraging regular skin checks. If you notice a new or changing spot, don’t wait — early evaluation can make all the difference.

1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, but when caught early skin cancer is highly treatable. If you have questions about how to find skin cancer early or reduce your risk of developing skin cancer, a board-certified dermatologist can help.

And just like that, one year went by in a flash! Tonight we celebrated our one year anniversary of our first day together as NMSCC. We started in Doctor Whalen’s house doing online trainings, scheduling (and rescheduling) patients while brainstorming through construction delays. We’ve learned an immense amount and strive to improve everyday. We remain grateful to serve our patients alongside exceptional teammates.

Farewell & Best Wishes, Samara!

It’s a bittersweet moment for us at Northern Maine Skin Cancer Center as we say goodbye to our wonderful Medical Assistant, Samara Muth.

Samara joined our team while she was still in college and quickly became an invaluable part of our practice. Her kindness, professionalism, and quiet strength have made a lasting impression on our patients and staff alike. Over the years, we’ve watched her grow into an incredibly capable and compassionate medical professional.

Now, she’s off to begin an exciting new chapter with Boston Scientific, where she’ll be putting her degree to great use and continuing to make a difference in the world of healthcare. While we will miss her dearly, we’re so proud of all she’s accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

Samara, thank you for everything. You’ll always have a home here. Best of luck—you’re going to do amazing things!
