On December 18th, dozens of people came together at Hope House in Bangor for our annual vigil honoring members of our homeless community who have passed. While the evening was rooted in remembrance, it was also filled with warmth, compassion, and a strong sense of togetherness.
We were truly lucky to hear from so many thoughtful, dedicated voices who show up for our community every day. Amelia Hersey, Medical Director of Hope House; Amy West, Clinical Director of Homeless Health Services; Brittney Dunham, Senior Director of Social Work at Preble Street; Jenn Gunderman, Director of Public Health for the City of Bangor; and Brian Moynihan, Manager of Special Services with CHCS all shared words that reminded us how deeply each person matters and how powerful it is when a community chooses care and dignity.
The evening was beautifully complemented by music from Bob Seccareccia and Shelter Music ME, which helped create a welcoming and reflective atmosphere. Even in a somber moment, there was a sense of hope, shared purpose, and the belief that coming together like this truly makes a difference.
We also shared a wonderful meal, and the generosity behind it deserves special recognition. A heartfelt thank-you to Moe’s BBQ, Governor’s Restaurant, Marden’s, Frank’s Bakery, Texas Roadhouse, and Dunkin’ Donuts for their kindness and support. That generosity added comfort, warmth, and joy to the evening.
Thank you to everyone who attended, spoke, listened, and supported this vigil in any way. Events like this remind us that compassion is alive and well in our community, and that when we gather with open hearts, even the hardest moments can feel wrapped in care. 💙
