🦴 It’s May… aka your BONES’ annual cry for attention 🦴
Happy Osteoporosis Awareness Month
(or as your skeleton calls it: “finally, she’s listening…”)
Let’s clear something up real quick:
👉 Osteoporosis is NOT just a “little old lady problem”
👉 It’s a men + women + hormones + lifestyle situation
🧬 Hormones = Your Bone Bodyguards
Estrogen 🤝 Testosterone
Both help:
✔️ Build bone
✔️ Slow breakdown
✔️ Keep your skeleton from quietly disappearing
Then hormones drop and suddenly…
💀 Bone loss speeds up
💀 Fracture risk climbs
💀 And nobody warned you this was part of the deal
(Respectfully… rude.)
📊 The part no one talks about:
1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men will have a fracture after 50
Hip fractures = up to 30% mortality in 1 year
Many people never regain independence
👉 This isn’t about looking frail
👉 This is about staying mobile, independent, and living your life
💪 Even if you already have osteoporosis… you are NOT stuck
Your bones are alive. Which means:
✨ You can still improve strength
✨ You can lower fracture risk
✨ You can change the trajectory
🔥 The “actually works” list:
🏋️‍♀️ Lift heavy things
(Walking is lovely… but your bones want a challenge)
🍗 Eat protein like it matters
(Because it literally builds your skeleton)
☀️ Vitamin D + minerals = non-negotiable
⚖️ Train balance
(Falls break bones more than weak bones do)
🧬 Support hormones (when appropriate)
(This is not a DIY situation, friends)
😴 Sleep + stress matter more than you think
(Cortisol is not a bone’s best friend)
Medications when risk is high enough are sometimes worth it!
🧠 Reality check:
Osteoporosis doesn’t just “happen.”
It’s built over years of:
➡️ under-eating
➡️ under-lifting
➡️ high stress
➡️ shifting hormones with zero support
BUT…
👉 It can also be rebuilt on purpose
💬 Final thought:
You don’t need perfect bones.
You need strong, resilient, “I can still do what I want at 80” bones 💃
If you’re not sure where you stand…
🦴 That’s literally what we do at Integrated Wellness
More transparency. Fewer surprises. More thoughtful care.
Less hamster wheel. More human being.
Drop a 🦴 if your bones deserve better than “we’ll deal with it later” 😏

🦴🚨 MAY IS OSTEOPOROSIS AWARENESS MONTH 🚨🦴

A friendly reminder that your skeleton is not supposed to become “vintage farmhouse décor” as you age 😵‍💫☠️

Bone loss is sneaky.

You don’t usually feel osteoporosis happening.

There’s no:
❌ dramatic soundtrack
❌ flashing warning light
❌ emergency alert from your femur

Your bones are just quietly filing HR complaints while estrogen disappears into the void of menopause.

And unfortunately…

💥 Hormones matter A LOT for bone health.

Estrogen helps:
🦴 slow bone breakdown
🦴 support bone remodeling
🦴 reduce fracture risk
🦴 keep your skeleton from behaving like a stale breadstick

Testosterone matters too — in BOTH men and women.

Because muscle + balance + strength + bone density all work together like a tiny orthopedic Avengers team.

✨ One option many women are exploring during menopause is hormone pellet therapy.

Pellets can provide:
✔️ consistent estradiol levels
✔️ steady testosterone support
✔️ fewer hormonal ups and downs
✔️ long-lasting delivery over several months

Translation:
Your hormones stop acting like emotionally unstable raccoons fighting in a dumpster at 2 AM 🦝🔥

Instead of:
😵‍💫 “Did I remember my patch?”
😩 “Why do I feel amazing Tuesday and terrible Thursday?”
📦 “Sorry ma’am, your estradiol is on backorder until the next lunar eclipse.”

Pellets offer a more stable delivery system for many patients.

And while no hormone therapy is magic fairy dust ✨🧚‍♀️…

Prevention matters.

Because hip fractures in older adults are not just painful — they are associated with loss of independence, hospitalization, and significant mortality risk.

Your future self would probably appreciate:
🏋️ strength training
🥩 adequate protein
☀️ vitamin D
🥬 mineral support
🚶 movement
🧘 balance work
🧬 proper hormone evaluation when appropriate

Your skeleton is the framework carrying you through life.

Treat it like a historic building… not a disposable lawn chair.

🐑🖤 BLACK SHEEP, MOTHER’S DAY & THE SACRED ART OF LOVING THE WEIRD ONES 🖤🐑
Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all the moms, grandmothers, bonus moms, aunties, caregivers, nurturers, chaos-managers, snack-distributors, bottle-feeders, and emotional support humans out there. 💐☕🫶
Today’s nourishing wisdom comes from Onyx.
Onyx is my pet sheep. He was a bottle lamb, which means he imprinted on humans and immediately decided he was not livestock, thank you very much. He was a misunderstood little prince in a wool coat. Rejected by his mother. Also rejected by the shepard! To the shepard what a pain to have to feed a lamb every 1-2 hours. They have enough to do! So farmers turn these critters quickly into meat.👑🐑
Once, Onyx went camping with us. He stayed close to me in a protective way. He was not offended when he was called GOAT.
This was not a livestock-management decision.
This was a lapse in judgment wrapped in optimism. 🏕️😂
He decided he wanted to sleep in the tent.
Let me be clear:
Onyx is not tent trained. ⛺🐑🚫
A sheep who wants to sleep in your tent does not understand boundaries, nylon, or the social contract and he is not potty trained.
And yet…
I love him anyway. 🖤
Last week, Onyx got his spring haircut. ✂️🐑
He is now freshly shorn, slightly gray, looking distinguished, and giving strong:
“retired rock star who still thinks he’s 27” energy. 🎸🕶️
The sheep shearer mentioned he seems to be getting a little stiff in the joints. I also notice how his nose has turned gray in the past 5 years.
Which made me look at Onyx and think:
“Well, buddy. Same.” 😅🦴
Because isn’t that aging?
One day you’re a bottle lamb trying to sleep in a tent, and the next day someone is commenting on your joints after your haircut.
Rude.
But medically relevant. 😂
I’ve even found myself contemplating whether something regenerative like BPC-157/TB-500 might help him, because apparently I am now the kind of person who considers peptide protocols for emotionally complicated sheep. 🧬🐑
To be clear: animals need veterinary guidance too. Please do not experiment on your pets, livestock, spouse, or emotionally fragile rooster without appropriate professional input. 🐓⚠️
But it does make me think about how much we love the odd ones.
The black sheep. 🖤🐑
The bottle babies. 🍼
The ones who don’t follow the herd correctly.
The ones who climb into places they do not belong.
The ones who demand snacks, age dramatically, and somehow remain our favorites.
And honestly?
Humans are a lot like sheep.
We like to think we are independent thinkers, but then one person gets anxious and suddenly the whole group is running in circles because “something feels off.” 😵‍💫🐑🐑🐑
We are herd animals with Wi-Fi. 📱🐑
We absorb each other’s energy.
We mirror stress.
We follow leaders.
We look for safety.
We occasionally make deeply questionable decisions because the rest of the flock seems to be doing it.
This is why mothers and caregivers matter so much. 💐
Because mothers often become the calm sheep in the field.
The one who says:
“Everybody breathe.”
“Eat something with protein.”
“Stop picking at that.”
“You are tired, not broken.”
“No, we are not making major life decisions at 10:45 p.m.”
“Drink water and go outside.”
Mothers are often the nervous system regulators of the herd. 🧠💛
And sometimes, they are also the black sheep.
The truth-tellers.
The cycle-breakers.
The ones who say, “Actually, we are not doing it that way anymore.”
The ones who love fiercely, protect the vulnerable, and occasionally drag everyone toward better health whether the herd appreciates it or not. 😂🖤
So this Mother’s Day, here’s to every kind of mothering energy:
💐 The soft ones
📣 The loud ones
😴 The tired ones
🖤 The grieving ones
🌪️ The complicated ones
💪 The overworked ones
🐑 The black sheep mothers
🍼 The bottle-lamb rescuers
🏡 The women who became the safe place they never had
🫶 The people who love the weird, stiff-jointed, aging creatures anyway
And here’s to Onyx.
Freshly shorn.
Slightly gray.
Possibly arthritic.
Still ridiculous.
Still beloved. 🖤🐑
May we all be loved that way.
Even when we are not tent trained. ⛺😂
Happy Mother’s Day weekend from Integrated Wellness.
Where we support the whole human herd — hormones, bones, stress, metabolism, nervous systems, and the occasional black sheep energy. I am so much healthier today than this picture below. Care my way is better for both myself and my patients! 🦴🧬💛🐑

Happy Nurses Week to my fellow healthcare nurse gremlins 🩺☕💀

I often joke that I was smart enough to become a doctor…
and smart enough NOT to become a doctor 😂

And honestly?
I regret absolutely nothing.

Nursing has given me a career full of purpose, humanity, flexibility, dark humor, problem solving, and enough stories to make a therapist nervous. Hate the job? There's always something else to explore!

As nurses we become:
🩺 clinicians
🫀 counselors
🧻 professional body-fluid managers
📞 translators of physician handwriting and human panic
🧠 detectives
🫂 emotional support humans
🚑 crisis coordinators
🍪 snack distributors
😵‍💫 and occasionally the only adult in the room
🪜From Certified Nurse assistant to doctors of nursing practice: some of us have chosen to stay low on the ladder vs all the way to the top, we all have in common that we CARE.

We learn how to:
✔ keep people alive under pressure
✔ talk families through terrifying moments
✔ comfort dying patients
✔ celebrate recoveries
✔ improvise with three supplies and pure caffeine-fueled determination
✔ chart things that no sane person should ever have to chart

Nursing is one of the few careers where you can:
• save a life before lunch
• get yelled at because the turkey sandwich is late
• and still somehow leave feeling grateful you showed up

It is exhausting.
It is sacred.
It is hilarious.
It is occasionally deeply weird.
Apparently some think we are not "professional."

And despite the chaos, the bodily fluids, the charting, the night shifts, the emotional whiplash, and the fact that healthcare is held together by nurses and printer ink…

I genuinely love what I do.

I’m grateful for every patient who trusted me.
Every coworker who made me laugh during impossible shifts.
Every lesson.
Every heartbreak.
Every victory.
Every “you really helped me” moment.

Nursing gave me a life filled with meaning.

And while doctors may know more about one organ system or have had more years of training, it is the nurses who know where the blankets are, what’s REALLY going on, and which patient is crashing before the monitor even notices 😎

Happy Nurses Week to the backbone of healthcare 💙
Please hydrate, stretch your back, and eat something besides leftover graham crackers from the med room!

🦴🚨 BONES, BOUNDARIES & SURVIVING MODERN LIFE 🚨🦴

Good morning to everyone fighting in political comment sections while surviving on caffeine, stress hormones, and approximately 4 hours of sleep ☕😵‍💫

Today’s nourishing wisdom:

💨 “Don’t p**s into the wind unless you enjoy getting wet.” 💨

Honestly… this may also be one of the best osteoporosis prevention strategies available in modern America 🇺🇸😂

Because some of y’all are out here:
🔥 stressed 24/7
📱 doomscrolling until midnight
🛟 trying to rescue grown adults from their own bad decisions
📣 arguing with strangers named Randy and Debra online
😤 carrying emotional baggage that isn’t even yours

Meanwhile your bones are backstage like:

🦴 “Ma’am… we are dissolving under these conditions.”

Here’s the thing nobody talks about enough:

🚨 Chronic stress and elevated cortisol are TERRIBLE for bone health. 🚨

When cortisol stays elevated long term, it can:
⬇️ decrease bone formation
⬆️ increase bone breakdown
⬇️ reduce muscle mass
⬆️ increase inflammation
😴 worsen sleep
⚖️ affect hormones like estrogen and testosterone
🚶 increase fall and fracture risk over time

Your body literally starts acting like:
“Ah yes… survival emergency. Let’s sacrifice the skeleton.” 💀

Meanwhile your nervous system is over there:
🧂 chewing magnesium glycinate
🌲 begging for sunlight
🛌 requesting rest
🏋️ asking for resistance training
🥩 and desperately hoping you’ll eat some protein

Friends…

Your bones LOVE:
💪 strength training
☀️ vitamin D
🥩 adequate protein
🚶 movement
😴 sleep
🧘 stress reduction
💚 healthy hormones

Your bones do NOT love:
📱 doomscrolling
😡 rage-posting
🍷 stress coping via nightly wine and crackers
🪑 sitting for 11 hours
🔥 cortisol marinating your skeleton like a rotisserie chicken

No wonder half the population feels:
🫠 exhausted
🦴 achy
😵 inflamed
💤 fatigued
💪 weaker every year

Today’s Bone Optimization Plan™:
🥩 Eat protein
🏋️ Lift something heavy
☀️ Go outside
💧 Hydrate
📵 Reduce stress input
🧘 Mind your own business whenever possible

Because protecting your peace ALSO protects your skeleton 🦴✨

And remember…

💨 If somebody insists on peeing directly into the wind… sometimes the mist IS the lesson 😂
