Our August volunteer highlight features Edie Erickson, a dedicated volunteer who has been part of the SSM Health St. Clare Hospital – Baraboo family for seven years as a volunteer and as a staff member prior to that.

Edie brings a special warmth to the Gift Shop, where she enjoys greeting visitors and reconnecting with both new and familiar faces. “St. Clare has always been close to my heart,” Edie shared. “I worked here as an RN many years ago, and volunteering feels like coming home.”

Outside of her volunteer work, Edie enjoys gardening, walking, traveling, and reading- activities that reflect her vibrant and caring spirit.

When asked what she would tell someone considering volunteering, Edie said, “Your time is appreciated, and you’ll get more out of it than you give. It is a friendly and caring atmosphere to be in.”

We’re grateful for Edie’s continued service and the joy she brings to our hospital community.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering, please contact
Carrie Doro, Volunteer Coordinator, at 608-356-1430 or carrie.doro@ssmhealth.com.

James Earl Tate knows the blues. But after he overlooked warning signs that his heart was in trouble, his career was almost cut short. A decade after collapsing in his yard, he credits his partner, SSM Health caregivers and newfound friends at cardiac rehab for helping him regain his rhythm - which keeps him singing in the spotlight.

When leaders in our Wisconsin region decided to implement the Age-Friendly Care model two years ago, they decided to dream big. Instead of starting with one unit, they decided to roll out the patient-centered care model and its framework across the region's seven hospitals. Now, equipped with a dashboard for care teams and improved patient satisfaction scores, the model is expanding even further. Catholic Health World from The Catholic Health Association of the United States has the story.
