Palliative care vs. hospice care – do you know the difference?

Palliative Care is for those diagnosed with a serious illness, provided alongside their treatment plan.

Hospice Care is for those with a terminal illness (about six months or less to live), focused on comfort and peace.

Both provide vital support when it’s needed most.

Giving back to the community and supporting organizations with the mission of bettering the health of the community is an important focus at Summa Health. Recently, the Akron Marathon recognized their 2024 Corporate Challenge Winners, honoring team spirit, corporate wellness and community impact. We were proud to receive the Extra Mile Corporate Challenge for Most Volunteers and Spirit Award for our 63 volunteers with a total of 391 volunteer hours. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a chronic condition where the stomach contents flow back (reflux) into the esophagus, causing troublesome symptoms and potential complications.

Five Tips for Managing GERD:
1. Avoid trigger foods (spicy, fatty, acidic)
2. Eat smaller meals more frequently
3. Don't lie down after eating
4. Elevate your head while sleeping
5. Minimize carbonated and alcoholic beverages

Persistent heartburn isn't normal. Talk to your healthcare provider if you experience symptoms more than twice a week.

Our Breast team recently hosted a wellness event for employees. Led by high school student, Sehar Mahesh, her Hope in Motion program aims to improve wellbeing through dance therapy. She led our staff to learn a short dance routine, followed by a cool down stretch.
