West Nyack and Nyack-Valley Cottage-Congers Little Leagues would like to congratulate our 12 year old All Star Softball team for making it all the way to the Sectional Finals. This group has had a tremendous amount of success in the past two years, as a collective unit, especially since the leagues joined forces for the 2024 season. The hard work that they all put in is admirable and did not go unnoticed. We would also like to congratulate the team from Eastchester and wish them the best of luck at the New York State tournament.

We at West Nyack Little League believe that no child should leave the field feeling robbed of the opportunity to compete. The Little League mission of teaching life lessons through sport—to build character, resilience, and strong communities—is one we deeply value and uphold.

While the season may have not ended in the best of situations, please know that the respective Boards of Directors supports you and is fighting to ensure that these situations do not happen in the future. No district or sectional game should ever be played on a field with inadequate facilities, such as having no working scoreboard, no bathrooms, no fences, and most importantly, no lights.
Little League rules state that, "a game shall not be started unless the tournament director or assistant judge there is adequate time to complete the game before darkness or curfew." Clearly with the forecast and the lack of lights, this was not a likely outcome.
In that same spirit, we are asking you—our families, supporters, and community—to consider reaching out to your local Little League representatives and advocate for much-needed change:

Tournament sites should be held to higher safety standards, including restrooms, covered shelter, appropriate lighting, first aid availability, and always, a clear and consistent safety plan.

Rules around weather delays and incomplete games should be transparent and fair, ensuring that no team loses their chance to finish a game they trained so hard to play.

Finally, to our incredible 12 year old girls: We are so proud of you. Every inning, every pitch, every moment you’ve played has brought pride and joy to your families, coaches, and fans. You have shown heart, grit, and love for the game—qualities that will carry you far beyond the softball field.

This ending does not define you. Your journey is just beginning, and we will always be cheering you on.

With pride and gratitude,

West Nyack Little League
