Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns that develop in infancy and typically integrate as a child grows.
These reflexes play an important role early in life, supporting feeding, movement, balance, and coordination. As the nervous system matures, they usually become less active, allowing more controlled and coordinated movement to develop.
In some cases, reflexes may remain active longer than expected. When this happens, they can influence posture, coordination, focus, or movement patterns. This doesn’t mean something is “wrong” — it simply reflects that the nervous system may still be developing certain connections.
Chiropractic care for children focuses on gentle assessment, movement, and support, with comfort, safety, and clear communication always coming first.
