Participation is welcome in a Monkfish Market Analysis project, a joint effort of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County's Marine Program (CCE) and New York Sea Grant (NYSG).
Through this project, CCE is surveying commercial fishermen, seafood dealers, seafood processors, and consumers throughout the region to learn more about the monkfish industry and consumer awareness levels as well as identify potential marketing opportunities.

Monkfish is an affordable, tasty and sustainable seafood option.
However, this fish remains underutilized in the U.S. In an effort to change this, CCE has partnered with seafood industry members, including NYSG, to make a region-wide effort to increase monkfish domestic demand through product development and audience expansion.
Inhabiting the waters of the Greater Atlantic region and caught by fishing fleets from Maine to North Carolina, Monkfish has firm, white, sweet-tasting meat akin to that of lobster. A historically weak foreign market and a lack of domestic demand has resulted in a boom in Monkfish population, making this delicious fish a more economical and sustainable choice than ever before.
