Getting ready for intakes and other sessions today. While I’m not the biggest fan of Telehealth, it serves a purpose and can be convenient at times.

Some parents opt to do the intake for testing this way and sometimes even the feedback session. I think we have all gotten used to this new landscape and as long as it doesn’t fully replace face to face, it works.

I have several more testing slots available in August, so feel free to call or text my business cell at 5085642449 to schedule (especially college students before it’s too late to get in before fall semester).

Happy Spring and almost summer. Looking forward to it and all of my new testing clients.

Hope you find time to break from work and enjoy this lovely time of year. I will be taking certain weeks off to enjoy the Cape and fill my cup so I’m ready for my work.

Happy New Year from Cape Cod Neuropsychology, LLC.

We are looking forward to a busy and productive 2025. As always, I will be conducting neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing for school-aged individuals and adults.

I primarily assess individuals for Learning Disabilities (i.e., Dyslexia and Nonverbal Learning Disability), ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Giftedness, and Anxiety/Mood issues.

I look forward to assisting people on their journey to learn more about themselves and to gain the support they need in school and in life.

View from my office. Full moon 🌕 tide.

It’s a lovely fall so far and things are really picking up in the office with the school year in full tilt.

Please call or text my cell phone (5085642449) to get in for assessment before the list is too long!

I can still fit a couple more in December.

If you’re a boarding or college student, pls let me know how so I can work around your vacation times.

Today is World Mental Health day. This exists to raise awareness of mental health issues and how they affect so many.

Green is the color they assigned to this day and for awareness. So here are some nice green pictures to enjoy.

Several things I want to say about this topic:

1. The increase of anxiety and mood disorders is very obvious since COVID-19 pandemic. And just in general.

2. Education about anxiety is hugely helpful for people and starting with the idea that almost everyone has some anxiety is important.

3. There are “good” and “bad” aspects to anxiety. And a little can keep one safe but a lot can debilitate people.

4. Strategies for any mental health disorder can only be used after they are practice in low-level distress situations. One has to work up to higher level ones over time.

5. Acceptance of one’s feelings is important and having others’ empathy is also very helpful. We don’t want to use positive statements to talk ourselves out of our feelings.

6. Realistic appraisal is different than toxic positivity. Looking at thoughts and deciding what is realistic is helpful.
It can lead to altering thoughts that exacerbate anxiety.

7. Psychotherapy comes in many forms and several that are particularly helpful include CBT, DBT, ACT, and IFS. Adding in mindfulness is key.

8. Find someone trained in one or more of those modalities. There are other helpful treatments. Ask your provider.

9. Turning to loved ones is highly recommended. Please never feel like doing that is a burden. People who truly love you will be there for you. Social support is super valuable.

Happy Fall. Such a beautiful time of year here on Cape Cod. Love this view from my office building. Always rejuvenates.

Just a reminder: If you want your private boarding or college student tested in November or December, please call the office soon as slots are starting to fill.

I look forward to seeing my repeat clients as well as new ones. Thanks for giving me the privilege of helping your children.

Another reminder: I also test adults and often see them for accommodations on graduate school entrance examinations or licensing exams, among other things.

(I do not test for dementia, but can provide referral for that when needed).

One of my favorite things to do clinically is to work with couples.

I am now embarking on the Level I and II of Gottman Institute training and will be augmenting all of my other training and existing skill sets with this approach.

What I love about Gottman’s work is that it is all informed by research. They have spent many years (40+) of observing couples in labs and naturalistic settings and deriving the important methodologies and tools that they use to treat couples.

I am excited to be offering this as part of my clinical practice.
