The PulteGroup Built to Honor® Program, launched in 2013, is a charitable initiative by PulteGroup, Inc., one of America’s largest homebuilding companies, aimed at supporting U.S. military veterans and their families. The program provides mortgage-free, brand-new homes to veterans who have been injured or disabled during their service, as well as to Gold Star families (those who have lost a loved one in military service).
Key Features of the Program:
• Purpose: To ease the transition to civilian life for wounded veterans and their families by providing stable, secure housing. The homes are tailored to meet specific needs, such as accessibility for disabilities.
• Scope: Since its inception, the program has donated over 95 homes across 17 states, with a total value exceeding $35 million. It is approaching its milestone of awarding 100 homes.
• Partnerships: PulteGroup collaborates with nonprofit organizations like Operation Homefront, Building Homes for Heroes, and Operation Coming Home to identify eligible recipients. Suppliers and contractors also contribute by donating time, materials, and financial resources.
• Community Involvement: A notable tradition includes the “Notes of Love” event, where Pulte employees and community members write messages of gratitude and encouragement on the home’s frame before walls are completed.
• Funding Support: The program has received significant contributions, including a $300,000 commitment from the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation in 2023 and grants from organizations like Hearthstone.
• Recognition: The program has been honored with awards, such as the 2020 Hearthstone Award, for its commitment to public service.
Impact:
The homes are often fully furnished and located in PulteGroup communities across brands like Pulte Homes, Centex, and Del Webb. Dedication ceremonies, often held around Veterans Day, celebrate recipients like U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Karafiat and Gold Star spouse Maggie Duskin. These homes provide not just shelter but a foundation for veterans and their families to rebuild their lives.
