Kamala's Own carries over 500 oils, over 100 incenses, and over 100 herbs. We hand make soaps, massage oils, lotions, and bath salts with no artificial colors or preservatives. As of March 15, 2011, all of our products are gluten-free. Many of our essential oils are organic. We are a woman-owned, independent craft business, not a distributor or MLM.

We call it Simple Soap because the ingredient list is very short. We don’t use any animal products or colors in our soap. It’s gentle on the skin and comes in a variety of scents. Last year tons of friends sent me articles about the fact that perfumers in Turkey were recreating the scent most likely worn by Julius Caesar. I knew I had to make my own version of it so here it is. I was expecting something similar to other ancient formulas I’ve seen; heavy on Myrrh and Cinnamon, but instead I found this beautifully balanced Patchouli/floral creation. Today in the store I had the opportunity to copy two different scents. These photos are from the first scent copy session, which was a beautifully complex fragrance from Cyprus. I am happy to copy discontinued scents when I am in the store. The fee is $50 plus the cost of ingredients, which usually settles out between $100 and $150 total. Our busy season is upon us though. I will not be in the store very much in May and hardly at all in June. If you want an appointment with me, next week is probably the best time before late July.

As roiling ocean waves crash on rocky shores, the spirit of Danu, the mother of all Irish legends, moves across the land. She IS the ocean. She IS the land. She is rich pastures and mossy boulders. She is fog and rain and velvety earth. She is flowers and grain and seaweed.
Danu is the mother of the Tuatha de Danaan, the children of Danu. Mythology tells us little about her other than that she is the progenitor of the mighty Irish deities.
