The new year means three new sessions in our five-part Food-Mood Connection series - and three opportunities to build healthy new habits! Local nutritionist and food scientist will present practical strategies for making healthier food choices to support mood, energy levels, focus, and overall well-being.

🍎 On Feb. 4, join us for Smart Snacking: Fueling Fun Between Meals! Master the art of nutritious and satisfying snacks to keep energy levels steady, banish cravings, and steer clear of processed, unhealthy options. All ages.

🥑 On March 4, we’ll host Fuel Your Focus: Nutrition for School & Sports! Designed especially for middle school and high school students, this class will explore the direct link between food choices and concentration, memory, test-taking success, plus athletic endurance and recovery.

🍊 On April 8th, we’ll learn how to be Food Label Detectives! This class will empower attendees with the skills to read and understand food labels, making it easier to choose healthier packaged foods. All ages, and families are encouraged to attend together!

Each of these free, hands-on classes will be held in the Barrington High School Culinary Lab from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Register at the link in our bio! Thank you to Barrington High School and for supporting this series.

Our December newsletter is out now, and the theme is embracing togetherness and tradition - without getting overwhelmed and overworked. We believe it’s possible, but it does require frequent check-ins with yourself, family members, and friends. For some ideas on how to approach an overflowing calendar, check out the tips above and read our December newsletter here: https://barringtonbyfs.org/so/a2PhX3CoX?languageTag=en

Last night we learned how to power up our breakfasts in our second Food-Mood Connection class! Local nutrition expert and food scientist Jessica Grelle Food & Nutrition taught us the importance of breakfasts that stabilize our blood sugar and prime our palates for more healthy choices throughout the day. 🍳

We learned delicious ways to combine protein, fiber, and healthy fats for steady energy and good moods, then finished by making overnight oats - yum!

Join us in 2026 for three all-new sessions - register at the link in our bio! Thank you to Barrington 220 School District and the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation for supporting this series.

Introducing our first-year BYFS Student Ambassadors! We are thrilled to have these students advocating for mental wellness at BHS and in the community:

Cici Ashcraft is a freshman at BHS, and joined BYFS to help create a better environment for high school students regarding mental health.

Perry Baumfeld is a sophomore at BHS. Being a part of BYFS has opened her eyes to the importance of conversations about mental health, as they break the stigma and make it easier for people to get support.

Tessa Burkhead is a junior at BHS, and joined BYFS to be more involved in our community, learn more about mental health, and spread awareness. She is happy to see all the resources available to our community, and the positive impact they have.

Cecilia Cornwell is a freshman at BHS, and joined BYFS to learn more about how she can support the mental health of peers and community members.

Eleanor Jankowski is a sophomore at BHS, and joined BYFS to learn more about mental health and the impact it has on our community. She hopes to help promote mental health awareness and break the social stigma around it.

Jack Kercinik is a junior at BHS, and joined BYFS to learn more about mental health and also spread awareness. Jack is a huge advocate for men’s mental health, and encourages everyone who is struggling to talk to someone.

Paige Kusmerz is a sophomore at BHS. She joined BYFS because she believes in supporting the mental health of the community, and to learn how to support people who are struggling.

Elsa Lundgren is a freshman at BHS, and joined BYFS because of the way it cares about helping students like her, talking about mental health, and building healthy families.

Jack Riordan is a junior at BHS, and joined BYFS to support the well-being of the community.

Jessica Solberg is a freshman at BHS, and joined BYFS because mental health is very important to her. She looks forward to helping spread the word about resources in our community that can help teens improve their mental health.

Our Ambassadors will be sharing some exciting news on upcoming events in the new year, so stay tuned!

We are proud to introduce our 2025-2026 BYFS Student Ambassador Leadership Team! We are so lucky to have each of these Barrington High School seniors and juniors leading our youth board. This amazing team is back for a second year to continue sharing positive messages around mental health!

Amber DiDomenico is a senior at BHS, and is serving as Chair of this year’s BYFS Student Ambassador Leadership Team. She joined the group to learn more about mental health and to share tips and ways to improve with her friends and peers.

Kiki Tanking is a senior at BHS, and says being involved with BYFS has been an incredible experience, working with others, sharing important mental health facts and tips, and helping our community as a whole.

Parker Engelson is a junior at BHS, and joined BYFS to get more involved with our community and in tune with his own mental health. Outside of BYFS, Parker loves playing varsity Bronco football and meeting new people!

Katherine Marquis is a junior at BHS, and joined BYFS to learn more about mental health and how to improve it. She says mental health needs to be talked about more because so many people struggle with it, and there are so many resources and support groups that can help!

Hadley Newman is a junior at BHS says mental health is a super important topic to talk about because making the conversation larger breaks the stigma, encourages people to get support, and helps people get the care they need for a happier future!

Marji Nisbet is a junior at BHS, and initially joined BYFS to learn more about mental health and the resources available. She loves being able to help peers by making the topic of mental health easier to talk about!

Gavin Sepe is a junior and joined BYFS to learn more about mental health and how he could help others, and says he has learned a lot about himself and how he can positively impact others around him.

We’re grateful for this group’s energy, leadership, and endless great ideas - they have big plans for events at BHS and beyond this winter and spring! Stay tuned, as we’ll be introducing our amazing Student Ambassadors throughout the week!
