February 23–March 1 marks National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), nearly 1 in 10 will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime. That means we all likely know someone who is or will be impacted.
Eating disorders are serious, complex mental health disorders affecting daily life and health. They often occur alongside Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, or Substance Use Disorders.
Warning signs include changes in eating or exercise habits, skipping meals or social events, a preoccupation with body or food, shame or loss of control around eating, often feeling weak or cold, or gastrointestinal issues.
If you know someone who is struggling, please encourage them to reach out for support. Visit www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/get-help/ for a free screening tool and treatment locator.
