❄️ Winter storm days = cozy inside… but your eyes may not love it ❄️

As an optometrist who treats dry eye every day, I see a big spike in symptoms during cold snaps—especially when we’re shut in for a few days with the heat blasting.

Here’s how to keep your eyes comfortable, moisturized, and healthy while you’re weathering the storm:

👁️ Fight dry indoor air
Heating systems pull moisture from the air—and from your eyes. A humidifier can make a huge difference.

👁️ Blink more than you think you need to
More screen time = fewer blinks. Make a habit of full, slow blinks, especially while watching TV or scrolling.

👁️ Use the right artificial tears
Preservative-free lubricating drops are best if you’re using them more than once or twice a day.

👁️ Stay hydrated
Your eyes need water just like the rest of you. Warm teas count!

👁️ Warm compresses = instant relief
A warm compress once or twice a day helps keep your natural tear oils flowing properly.

If your eyes feel gritty, burning, watery, or tired—even indoors—it’s not “just winter.” Dry eye is very treatable, and early care makes a big difference.

Honoring Dr. King’s enduring vision for justice, unity, and equality.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — a leader whose courage and vision continue to inspire justice, equality, and community.

We also recognize a special connection to our practice: Congresswoman Katie Hall, the aunt of our own Dr. Chaka Norwood was the legislator who sponsored and led the effort in Congress to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a national holiday in 1983. As the first Black woman elected to the U.S. House from Indiana, her leadership helped secure MLK Day as a federal observance we celebrate every year, ensuring Dr. King’s legacy is honored nationwide.

As an eye care practice, we’re reminded that “vision” isn’t just about sight — it’s about seeing a better world and working together to bring that vision to life.
