Happy Mother’s Day from Journeys Therapy Center!

For some, today is full of celebration and connection.
For others, it may feel heavy, complicated, or even painful.

We’re holding space for all of it.

For mothers, those longing to be mothers, those navigating infertility, those who have experienced pregnancy or child loss, and those with complex or strained relationships around motherhood.

However this day shows up for you, there is room for your experience here.

Even in the mix of emotions, you deserve care, support, and gentleness with yourself today.

You don’t have to carry it all on your own.

What therapy is *actually* like (not what you see in movies or TikTok):

A lot of people come into therapy with expectations that don’t quite match reality, and that can make starting feel confusing or even discouraging. So let’s talk about it.

Therapy isn’t about someone telling you exactly what to do. A good therapist helps you understand yourself more deeply so you can make decisions that actually fit your life. Sometimes you might even leave with more questions than answers. That’s not a bad thing.

It can also feel slow. Real growth usually doesn’t happen in one big breakthrough moment. It builds over time in small, meaningful ways that are easy to miss if you’re only looking for big changes.

And it’s not just venting. Yes, you get space to talk, but therapy often goes deeper than that. You might start noticing patterns, sitting with emotions you usually avoid, or exploring how your experiences show up in your relationships.

Also, therapy doesn’t always feel good. Some sessions can be uncomfortable or emotional. That doesn’t mean it’s not working. It often means you’re getting closer to something important.

One of the biggest parts of therapy isn’t techniques or tools, it’s the relationship. Feeling safe, understood, and not judged is what allows real change to happen.

It’s also collaborative. You’re not being “worked on”. You’re part of the process. You get a say in the goals, the pace, and what matters most to you.

And finally, insight is just the beginning. Therapy isn’t just about understanding yourself. It’s about making changes that show up in your everyday life.

Therapy isn’t about being “fixed.” It’s about understanding yourself and creating change that actually lasts.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, we’re here when you’re ready.

Happy Star Wars Day!

What can Star Wars teach us about mental health?

More than you might expect.

Here are a few reminders inspired by the story:

✨ You don’t have to face things alone
Even Luke Skywalker needed support, guidance, and people in his corner. Healing happens in connection.

✨ Avoiding pain doesn’t make it go away
Anakin Skywalker’s fear, grief, and isolation didn’t get processed, they took over. What we avoid tends to grow.

✨ Your thoughts aren’t always true
Not every “disturbance in the Force” needs a reaction. You can pause, question, and choose your response.

✨ Balance matters more than perfection
Mental health isn’t about always being calm or “together.” It’s about finding your way back when things feel off.

✨ You are more than your worst moment
Even Darth Vader had more to his story. Growth and change are always possible.

✨ Self-awareness is your superpower
Pay attention to what’s underneath your reactions, stress, burnout, loneliness. Understanding yourself is where change begins.

If this resonated with you, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Youth Su***de Rates are declining. 🙌

When someone is experiencing a crisis, having help readily available can make all the difference.

APA is greatly encouraged by a recent study linking the launch of the 988 crisis line with a decline in suicides among young adults. See more from a recent The New York Times article: https://at.apa.org/da210f

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 988 for free and confidential support from trained counselors all day, every day.

Check out this article from the Washington Post. What are your thoughts on this article or the topic in general? Have you taken Ozempic or any other GLP-1 medications and had a similar effect? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Some patients have reported a kind of emotional flattening while on GLP-1 drugs.

Online, the phenomenon has taken on a name — anhedonia — and, more colloquially, “Ozempic personality.” https://wapo.st/4tnq49I

At Journeys Therapy Center, we believe children deserve a space where their feelings can be understood, even when they don’t yet have the words to explain them.

That’s why we offer Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based approach developed by Garry Landreth. In this model, play becomes the child’s language and toys become their words. In a safe, accepting playroom, children are free to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences while the therapist follows their lead with empathy and understanding.

Through this process, children can work through big feelings, build confidence, develop self-control, and strengthen their sense of self in a way that feels natural and developmentally appropriate.

Our play therapy program allows us to support children and families with care that honors the unique way kids communicate and heal.

If your child is struggling with anxiety, behavioral concerns, big life changes, or emotional overwhelm, play therapy can help.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you. It’s about helping you uncover what’s already there.

This message from reminds us so much of the therapy process: the potential, strength, and wisdom you’re looking for aren’t something a therapist gives you—they’re something we help you rediscover within yourself.

As therapists, we don’t create your greatness.
We help unlock the greatness that’s already in you. 🔓✨
