We are so excited to announce that Jasmine Knaus, LAC is joining the Rise Up Counseling Team! Jasmine has spent the last decade in the nonprofit sector, where she has helped numerous families through life’s most difficult seasons, and she brings this real-world experience into her therapy practice with teens and young adults. She is passionate about working with this population as they come to understand who they are and find their purpose amidst the unique challenges they face. Unfortunately in my grief work I have found that grief is awkward and uncomfortable for many leaving those grieving feeling the need to rush through their grief or not fully share the deepths of their pain because of not wanting others to feel uncomfortable. Grief requires us and others to face our mortality and many of us don’t do that well. If you are a person experiencing grief don’t let others dictate your grief journey and what your process looks like. And for those supporting grieves allow yourself to be okay with discomfort and discomfort can often grow compassion.

So often in grief and transition journeys there is a struggle to allow two seemingly opposite emotions to coexist. And yet what grief so often teaches us is that we can feel varying and what often feel like conflicting emotions in a given minute, hour or day. There can be freedom in allowing ourselves to not be conflicted by our emotions but rather giving them space to come and go as they need. Grief and joy can coexist!
