ROCKtober Fest

After much careful consideration, the ROCKtoberfest committee has come to the difficult decision to NOT host our annual festival in 2020. Due to the uncertainty of our economic climate, ever changing issues regarding COVID, and the need to bring in vendors from several locations around the state, we feel it is in the best interest of our county, community, and our volunteers to cancel. We have struggled the last few years securing enough volunteers and it will be even more difficult this year. We also cannot guarantee the number of people who will attend, which will put an unneeded strain on the already suffering businesses in our community. Extra food, inventory, and staff need planned in advance and if numbers are low, they would be out that money. This was not an easy decision but one that we feel necessary at this time. Here is our final flush for the season! Thank you to all who participated! Since we had to cancel Rocktoberfest, we wanted to money to go to something for the kids in our community. We raised $460 which will be donated to the Rock County Library for children’s educational activities.

Many questions have been raised in regards to why the event can’t be rescheduled or why wind and cool temps would stop Rocktoberfest. Rescheduling an event this huge with so many moving parts in a short window of time is a logistical nightmare. We would have to see if our interactive game supplier is available, start over on volunteers, hope people do not already have plans for the make up date and run the risk of interfering with other activities. The weather is another factor we have to consider. The cold is one thing, but all interactives have a wind speed limit of 10-20 mph on asphalt before it becomes a safety concern. Pair that with the possibility of wet streets and the fact all interactives require no shoes, and it becomes a question of practicality. Will people actually bring their children in less than ideal weather? All of our activities cost us money, and are paid in part by sponsorships. The remaining amount is covered by wristband sales. Low attendance means low sales and a loss of money for the event. Finally, it takes over 150 volunteers to even be able to hold our event. As of 12:00 pm today, we still had 67 open spots. We are thankful to all who did volunteer and understand that there were scheduling conflicts for some. There are too many remaining spots for the 11 committee members to fill alone. We know it is heartbreaking and no one is more devastated than the committee who has put their blood, sweat, tears and heart into this event for 6 years. We also know that community safety and financial responsibility have to be taken into account. We apologize for anyone who planned their weekend around this event. We are as disappointed as you. We hope everyone will continue to support us in the future and accept our sincerest apologies.

The Rocktoberfest Committee has thought long and hard about Saturday’s event. We want to thank all the businesses and community members who have invested in this amazing event. Due to forecasted high winds, lower than expected volunteer turnout due to scheduling conflicts, and overall safety of our patrons, we have made the impossible decision to cancel Rocktoberfest for 2019. Anyone who has purchased wristbands already, please message us and we will refund your money. Include location purchased and payment type. All who have donated for sponsorships will be contacted by the committee in the near future. We are heartbroken by the decision but feel it is in the best interest of our community. Thank you for all the support. The FFA Haunted Escape room is cancelled as well. The Rock County Hospital Vendor Fair downtown is still on as scheduled.
