Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties

Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties The Children’s Advocacy Center exists to provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to the problem of child abuse in our community.

We aspire to reduce trauma, seek justice, and foster healing and empowerment to child victims of abuse and their non-offending families and caregivers. Our vision is to facilitate the collaboration with agency professionals from Law Enforcement, Child Protection, Prosecution and Medical to assess and support abused children and their non-offending family members. The Children’s Advocacy Center started in Bastrop in a small rented house in 1992. A veteran Child Protective Services (CPS) worker volunteered her time and efforts to keep the Center operational. In 2000, the Center purchased, renovated, and moved into a historic house centrally located to Child Protective Services, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, the Bastrop Police Department, and the Bastrop County Courthouse. In 2002, the Center officially expanded and changed its name to the Children’s Advocacy Center serving Bastrop, Lee, and Fayette Counties. In 2003, to better meet the growing needs of our service area, the Center purchased a second facility adjacent to the main house which is used solely for therapy services. In 2005, the Center became nationally accredited and its in-house SANE program became fully operational. In 2021, the Children's Advocacy Center moved to its current location in Central Bastrop, doubling its footprint and creating the opportunity to not only provide more services, but enhancing the services already provided. The new location includes a permanent, on-site medical suite, a therapeutic wing, and a dedicated family advocacy food and clothing pantry. The Center provides Forensic Interviews, Victim Advocacy, Therapeutic Services and facilitation with 24 Multidisciplinary (MDT) professionals from law enforcement, CPS, Medical, and District/County Attorney’s in the 3 county service area. We are the only agency that provides these services in Bastrop, Lee and Fayette counties, in a neutral, child-friendly setting. Services are provided free of charge and in English and Spanish.

Superheroes in Action! 💛

On Monday, October 13th, our friends from A+ Federal Credit Union and First National Bank brought heart, hustle, and helping hands to the Children’s Advocacy Center, dedicating their time and talent to two projects that had long been on our wishlist.

As part of their ongoing commitment as a Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties Hero For Hope, the team from A+ Federal Credit Union rolled up their sleeves and tackled a major task - pulling, organizing, and restocking our full inventory of winter essentials for the Holly Jolly Program. Thanks to them, we’re ready to bring warmth and joy to dozens of children and families this holiday season.

Then, together with staff from First National Bank and our own Family Advocacy team, they helped create something truly special - a bright, empowering Superpower Wall mural designed just for the brave children we serve. This interactive installation has been a long-standing dream of our Advocacy team, and seeing it come to life was a powerful moment.

We’re so grateful to A+ Federal Credit Union and First National Bank of Bastrop for the care they show our community, and for their generosity, compassion, and belief in the work we do every day.

💛 It's World Mental Health Day.

Today, we recognize the power of therapeutic healthcare following trauma, and how it helps children and families not only survive hard things, but emerge stronger.

At the Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties, our Family Advocate and Clinical Teams do this work every single day. Through the language of empathy, play, creation, and giving kids a voice, they help children heal. They help families find stability again. They help break cycles. They help kids be kids again.

This work is not simple or small. It takes endurance, heart, and constant evolution. Our team continues to grow in specialization, deepening their skills, and bringing new approaches to the children and families they serve. They do it with compassion and excellence, showing up each and every day - and extra on holidays - to hold space, offer care, and make healing possible.

And the impact is real! In 2024, our Clinical Team provided 3,657 individual therapeutic sessions. Our Family Advocacy Team supported 378 families, distributed 277 Thanksgiving meals, and provided nearly 900 holiday gifts to the children we serve, right here in our community.

Today, we ask you to join us in giving the heartiest of thanks to these incredible professionals for their hard work, their tireless innovation, their continued pursuit of excellence, and their unwavering belief that healing is possible.

To our Clinical and Family Advocacy Teams: thank you for everything you give. 💛

💛 At the Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties, healing happens in all kinds of ways. Sometimes, it looks like a quiet conversation in a circle of chairs. Sometimes, it looks like a plate of warm, home-cooked food, made with care by the very same people who show up each day to help families heal.

Every week, our Clinical and Family Advocacy teams prepare comforting, nutritious meals for the families attending group therapy - a vital space where children and caregivers process trauma, build community, learn coping skills, and develop healthier relationships. These sessions are a soft place to land, and a chance to be seen and supported.

While our licensed therapists and advocates lead small-group sessions focused on boundaries, healthy relationships, and emotional recovery - they also make sure the basics are covered: free babysitting, a warm meal, and an environment of kindness, safety, and hope. Because you need a solid foundation if you want to build.

This is what trauma-informed care looks like.
