Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties

Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties The Children’s Advocacy Center exists to provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to the problem of child abuse in our community.

We aspire to reduce trauma, seek justice, and foster healing and empowerment to child victims of abuse and their non-offending families and caregivers. Our vision is to facilitate the collaboration with agency professionals from Law Enforcement, Child Protection, Prosecution and Medical to assess and support abused children and their non-offending family members. The Children’s Advocacy Center sta

rted in Bastrop in a small rented house in 1992. A veteran Child Protective Services (CPS) worker volunteered her time and efforts to keep the Center operational. In 2000, the Center purchased, renovated, and moved into a historic house centrally located to Child Protective Services, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, the Bastrop Police Department, and the Bastrop County Courthouse. In 2002, the Center officially expanded and changed its name to the Children’s Advocacy Center serving Bastrop, Lee, and Fayette Counties. In 2003, to better meet the growing needs of our service area, the Center purchased a second facility adjacent to the main house which is used solely for therapy services. In 2005, the Center became nationally accredited and its in-house SANE program became fully operational. In 2021, the Children's Advocacy Center moved to its current location in Central Bastrop, doubling its footprint and creating the opportunity to not only provide more services, but enhancing the services already provided. The new location includes a permanent, on-site medical suite, a therapeutic wing, and a dedicated family advocacy food and clothing pantry. The Center provides Forensic Interviews, Victim Advocacy, Therapeutic Services and facilitation with 24 Multidisciplinary (MDT) professionals from law enforcement, CPS, Medical, and District/County Attorney’s in the 3 county service area. We are the only agency that provides these services in Bastrop, Lee and Fayette counties, in a neutral, child-friendly setting. Services are provided free of charge and in English and Spanish.

Today we recognize our SAFE nurses 💙

These professionals provide compassionate, trauma-informed medical care to children during some of their most difficult moments.

Their work goes beyond medical exams, they help children feel safe, supported, and cared for when it matters most.

We are so grateful for the role they play in the healing process. Happy National Nurses Day!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💙

When a child experiences trauma, the impact doesn’t end when it’s reported.
Healing takes time, support, and people who are trained to walk alongside them through it.
Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing more about the importance of mental health and the people who help make healing possible.

Because what happens after trauma matters.

May the 4th be with you!💫

There is always hope for healing, even when it doesn’t always look like what we expect. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it takes time. But with the right support, it is possible.💙

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the importance of caring for the minds and hearts of the children and families we serve.

Because every child deserves to feel safe, supported, heard AND hopeful.

When a child experiences abuse, the impact doesn’t end when the situation is reported.

Trauma affects how children think, feel, behave, and connect with others.

At the CAC, therapy helps children:
• Process what happened
• Reduce anxiety, fear, and shame
• Rebuild a sense of safety
• Learn healthy coping skills

Healing is possible—but it doesn’t happen alone. 💙

The amazing group who visited us? Girls Giving Grants. Did you know such an incredible group existed?! Community based, service oriented, skill developing…what’s not to love about their work?
This group interviewed our CEO, Meagan Webb, toured our building, and completed an organizing project for an upcoming event. They asked thoughtful questions about the forensic interviewing process, how we decided to pursue our professions in the child abuse prevention field and how we cope with the heavy work day in and day out.
We are honored they took time to come get to know the mission of the CAC in Bastrop, G3…y’all are the real deal! Keep on spreading those wings!💙🦋
