Located in beautiful and historic Bastrop, Texas, Dr. Matthew Schukar and the staff of Texas Vision Clinic provide genuine eye care for the entire community. We appreciate actual patient care and personal interactions which seem to be missing in most medical offices today.
We are a fully-owned, private practice with a deep history of serving Bastrop and the surrounding communities. Our practice was founded by Dr. Neil Gurwitz in downtown Bastrop in 1951. Over the years the office titles have changed but the care and familiarity remains. We are happy to continue the tradition of quality care to Bastrop and look forward to many more years of local service.
Dr. Matthew Schukar, O.D. is a dedicated and earnest doctor who has been providing care in Texas for several years. Growing up in Lincoln, Nebraska, he migrated to Texas to attend Baylor University and obtained his degree Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Shortly after he obtained his doctorate from Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He has been active in the Bastrop community as a provider through the former Texan Eye, but now as the owner of the revamped Texas Vision Clinic. He is a certified Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist who has a keen eye in visual clarity, ocular health and a desire to provide modern medical care in the optometric setting. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife, daughter and two dogs, build guitar amplifiers, expand his vinyl record collection, and work on wood projects in the garage.
