Being there to comfort patients and their families during such a difficult time is deeply meaningful. "While some days are more challenging than others, it's always worth it," Shenika says. She's proud to be part of hospice care and proud to make each family feel confident in choosing Gentiva.

She says she enjoys caring for the elderly, which is why she's devoted to this work. "I love all of my patients," she says with pride.

She fell in love with hospice as an LPN, which inspired her to advance her nursing career. Brittany says she considers it an honor to care for patients during their most vulnerable moments. She strives to be not only their nurse, but also a trusted friend and safe space. The close relationships she builds with patients and caregivers are deeply meaningful to her, and she hopes every family knows she'll be there for them when they need her most.

Meet Brooke, a Social Worker at Gentiva Batesville.
After years in long-term care, Brooke felt called to hospice to make a difference in the lives of those facing end-of-life challenges. Her connection to hospice is deeply personal. “Both of my parents received hospice care from Gentiva in 2023. The support our family received made such a difference during that time," she shares. "Now I have the honor of being part of the same compassionate team that once cared for my loved ones."

Craig, the Chaplain at Gentiva Batesville, has six years of experience in his role. He says the Lord has given him a deep love for people, and he enjoys meeting patients and their families. Being a hospice chaplain allows him to minister beyond the walls of the church and meet people where they are in one of the most meaningful seasons of life. Craig has a passion for encouraging others in ways few have the opportunity to. “I feel truly blessed to serve in this role and to offer comfort, hope, and support to those in our care.”

Julia serves as a social worker at Gentiva Batesville. She brings over 28 years of social work experience, including 12 years with Gentiva and 15 years in hospice care. Throughout her career, Julia has had the privilege of meeting and comforting patients and families during some of life's most difficult moments. She says she finds it deeply rewarding to provide emotional support, resources, and education, building meaningful relationships and helping families find comfort and peace during challenging times.

Jan is the clinical liaison for Gentiva Batesville, connecting patients, the hospice care team, and healthcare providers through each stage of care. She has been an RN for 18 years, with more than seven years in hospice and over three years with Gentiva.

Jan’s passion for hospice care began at a young age, when her grandfather received hospice care, a deeply personal experience that inspired her to become a nurse. “I love helping people in my own community access quality care when it matters most,” she shares. Jan finds her greatest joy in building meaningful connections with patients and caregivers and hearing their life stories, bonds she says are unlike any other in her career.

Patricia has been a nurse for 31 years and has served with Gentiva for 12 of those years. With 17 years of hospice experience, she now leads our team as Patient Care Manager. Patricia says hospice is truly her calling. When her own grandmother received hospice care, the compassion and support of the team left a lasting impact on her and inspired her to enter the field. One of the things she values most is the opportunity to care for patients and families over time, building meaningful bonds. She enjoys teaching staff about hospice care. She considers her patients and their caregivers part of her extended family.
