Dr. Karen Nelson is a board-certified holistic physician specializing in menopause and the midlife transition. Accredited through the American Naturopathic Medical Association and currently completing post-doctoral training in Holistic Functional Medicine, her work centers on women who feel out of sync with their bodies and are seeking answers that go beyond being told, “this is just part of aging

.”

In addition to her extensive training, Dr. Karen is a Certified Spiritual Practitioner, allowing her to support the emotional and deeper life questions that often surface during this stage of life — feelings of disconnection, loss of identity, or a sense that something deeper is asking to change.

All additional certifications and hands-on training inform her comprehensive, whole-person approach to menopause care, blending evidence-based medicine with subtle body awareness to restore balance, vitality, and trust in the body during midlife and beyond.

Margaritas are fun… until 2am hot flashes and 3am anxiety RSVP “yes” without asking you.

Not trying to be a buzzkill, lol, but our midlife bodies don’t process sugar, alcohol, and stress the same way anymore. Because hormones are shifting, our nervous system is more sensitive, and what used to feel like “fun” can now feel like a full-body protest the next day. (I quickly learned this the hard way on my recent vaca to St. Lucia!)

But here’s the deal: we don’t have to miss out—we just have to celebrate differently.

Whether it’s this Cinco de Mayo, or this Friday when I celebrate my b-day at a local Mexican restaurant, there are “hormone-happy” swaps we can make:

• Margarita > Mocktail (think lime, sparkling water, pinch of sea salt)
• Protein + fiber first (hello tacos with beans + grilled chicken)
• Pause + check-in BEFORE round two: “Will this support how I want to feel tomorrow?”
• Step outside for 5 deep breaths—yes, even mid-party

The goal isn’t restriction… it’s feeling good in our bodies while still living our best lives.

Midlife deserves more than “grin and bear it.”

And I’m saying that as someone walking through it too.

Hot flashes.
Mood swings.

You may notice this page now reflects that name. This evolution represents the deeper focus my work has taken in supporting women through perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.

I remember yelling out loud, “If I knew what my body wanted, I would do it!” I was sick, tired, and sad - despite being super blessed with a wonderful family and home. Although discovering natural health began the transformation, it wasn’t until I started using the SRT machine how quickly I realized how much of my life was still running on autopilot. Stress patterns, thought loops, even how my body held tension — it all felt like it had a mind of its own.

But here’s the beautiful part: when I began calming my nervous system and releasing those old patterns, space opened up for something new. SRT helped me create healthier rhythms, build resilience, and discover lost energy. Now with the SRT-FIT, each session feels like I’m planting seeds for a new way of being — what foods/muscles/emotional triggers does my body want to work on this month? It’s not just breaking habits but building a new life.
