On this day in 1941, Thomas Gustave Plant, the once enterprising shoe manufacturer and later owner of the Lucknow Estate, passed away after a four-day stay at Laconia Hospital. He was 82 years old.

Born to Canadian immigrants and raised in Bath, Maine, Tom rose from humble beginnings to great heights in the shoe industry. He became a self-made millionaire. He helped revolutionize the industry with his innovative practices and employment of welfare capitalism. After selling his business, Tom turned his attention to the Ossipee Mountains, where he created an expansive mountaintop estate called Lucknow. Lucknow was a place of beauty and recreation. It was a place where Tom could enjoy the solitude without being deprived of the luxuries to which he was accustomed.

Tom Plant was known to be demanding, and his relationship with the people of Moultonborough was not always warm. Still - whether he's cast as the hero or the villain in the story - Tom certainly left a lasting legacy on the Ossipee Mountains with his Lucknow Estate.

Today, we honor Tom Plant's life and appreciate his forward thinking. Without Tom Plant, there would be no Castle in the Clouds!

The office prank wars continue!! After playing a SMALL hand in covering our Administrator’s office in post-it notes and filling our Resident Life Director’s office with 100 balloons, I suppose it was my turn. Thank you for celebrating my two year anniversary at the Plant Home- let me know if you helped tinfoil me so I can properly thank you 😉

At just over 260 sqft, 3L is the small package good things come in. 📦

Not looking a day over 108, this pint sized apartment has been lovingly maintained over the years and thoughtfully staged by our Resident Life Director, Robi. Though 3L may be little, it boasts the same amenities of all of our studios- a kitchenette to cook, plenty of space to navigate a walker, and the privacy you can expect from every Plant Home apartment. 🌱

Curious about our smallest, coziest apartment? Schedule a tour today!

The dietary crew is excited to debut the Plant Home's new menus! Here's a little "taste" (get it?) of the options residents get at every meal- that's right, options! Residents (and staff) get their choice of two dishes made with love. 💚And as always, a delicious dessert finishes each meal. 🍮 With more options and a designated cook-out day weekly, it's gooood eating at the Plant Home. 😋

As a tour guide, there's a lot I say about the Plant Home on a near daily basis. Conversations range from fun facts (Tom Plant was 5'2"!) to REALLY fun facts (rent is income based). But my favorite fun fact is that THREE of our employees have family members living at the Plant Home. Staff members trust their coworkers to care for their moms, uncles and mother-in-laws. Is there a better endorsement for the love at the Plant Home? ❤️🌱
