As a lifelong exerciser and calorie counter, I can attest to this. I first read about this approach in 2000. Couldn't believe it and didn't try it until late 2009. Dropped 40 pounds, down to 6% bodyfat WITHOUT intentionally reducing calories and WITHOUT burning more calories "in the gym". WITHOUT breaking a sweat! Something happened! Been trying to figure that out since. I think this explains it. Do not exercise to burn calories. In fact, I believe, the less calories burned exercising the better your results will be. People who burn the most calories have the highest "NEAT".
That's NON exercise activity which includes comfortable walking that I promote. I recommend walking at about 2.7mph or about 100 steps per minute. This combined with brief and infrequent exercise(cardio and strength) sessions is a sustainable effective program.

My experience is nobody comes to the gym and walks at this speed. Most would consider this very slow. However, it's a very comfortable pace that helps with recovery as well as heart health.
I recommend staying at this speed daily and do ONE brief HIIT session weekly.
