Thank you for everything you do!

Kathy Hayes is the food service manager at LaSalle Elementary! With 13 years at LaSalle and 30 years of service overall, all with EBR, she believes it is important to ensure students are fed and have a consistent source of nutrition each day. She loves being able to serve the children, who are the reason she shows up every day, and she truly enjoys working alongside her colleagues.

It’s National Wear Red Day and Heart Healthy Month, so we’re wearing red to show some extra love to our hearts—especially women’s hearts. 💖

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined. That’s why today is all about awareness, prevention, and care.

🔴 Why red?
Red is our way of saying “We care!” 💌 It’s a symbol of support for women’s heart health and a conversation starter about healthy choices, early detection, and reducing risks.

These innovative towers will help bring fresh, local learning straight into our schools—teaching students about sustainability, nutrition, and how food grows 🌿🥬

Dear EBR Families,

Out of an abundance of caution due to the winter weather, possible icy road conditions and power outages expected on Monday, East Baton Rouge Parish Schools will move to an asynchronous learning day on Monday, January 26.

Students will not report to school in person. Teachers will provide assignments and learning activities for students to complete at home, and families should monitor school and teacher communications for specific instructions.

We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend and remain in communication with local meteorologists. Any additional updates will be shared as soon as they are available.

🌱💚 We LOVE a good collaboration—especially one that grows! 💚🌱

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System Child Nutrition Program is incredibly thankful for our partnership with the Center of Excellence on this meaningful and inspiring initiative at Istrouma High School.

Transforming retired filing cabinets into a thriving garden is a powerful example of creativity, sustainability, and student-centered learning 🌿.

We sincerely appreciate the support from Center of Excellence for Nutrition, Health, Wellness, and Quality of Life, whose contribution of plants, soil, and expertise helped bring this vision to life. Seeing the project grow to 27 file cabinet gardens—and counting—is truly inspiring 🥬✨

Most importantly, we are grateful that the fresh produce grown will be incorporated into student meals, reinforcing the connection between nutrition, education, and real-world learning 🍽️💛

Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication to our students, our schools, and a healthier future.
