When your surgical scar heals too well... 🤷‍♀️ One of my patients came in yesterday with this creative tattoo next to his incision. He wanted a more dramatic surgical scar— so he added some extra stitches for dramatic effect! 😃
I love seeing the personality and humor my patients bring into the healing process. Medicine meets art!

📸 ORIF of a Jones Fracture with Autologous Bone Graft 💀🦶
Today’s case: A Jones fracture — a break at the base of the 5th metatarsal — known for its high risk of nonunion due to limited blood supply in this area.
To optimize healing, I performed an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), supplemented with a bone graft harvested from the patient’s own calcaneus. Using autologous grafting increases the chance of union. ⚙️💉

🏃‍♀️☀️ SUMMER RUNNING TIPS with Coach Houston Franks & Dr. Julie Neumann 🩺💪
Whether you’re just getting started or chasing a new PR, here are some expert-backed tips to keep you running strong (and safe!) this summer:

✅ Pick a Race- Set a goal to stay motivated and make training fun.
🔥 Avoid the Heat- Run early or late, hydrate well, and respect that Louisiana sun.
🏅 Get a Coach- Someone like Coach Franks or my coach Jessica Jones can personalize your plan and keep you on track.
🚴 Cross Train- Swim, bike, or lift to build balanced, injury-resistant strength.
🧘‍♀️ Stretch- Prioritize dynamic warm-ups and post-run recovery to prevent injury.
🩺 Listen to Your Body- Don’t ignore warning signs-small pains can turn into big setbacks.
😄 Have Fun- The best gains come when you’re enjoying the journey!

Many of my patients know triathlons are one of my favorite ways to stay active—and most take place in the warmer months. These are the same strategies I use to train smart and stay healthy.

👟 Run safe, run smart, and enjoy every mile!

This little piggy had a TOE-tally unexpected injury. My patient made a same day appointment with me and I manipulated his TOE— right in the office, no surgery needed! TOE-day was a good day.

He came in with a crooked TOE… and left with a TOE-rific realignment.

If you are experiencing an orthopaedic injury call 225-388-6630 or visit https://www.julieneumannmd.com to make an appointment with me.

💥 Distal Fibula Fracture - Treated with a Fibular Nail

This patient sustained a distal fibula fracture that required surgical intervention. Given their medical comorbidities, I opted for a fibular nail that goes inside of the bone instead of a traditional plate and screw construct that sits on the side of the bone.

👉 Why a fibular nail?
-Smaller incisions = less soft tissue disruption
-Lower infection risk
-Allows earlier weight bearing
-Also ideal for patients with complex medical profiles

Simple, effective, and gets patients moving sooner- that’s the goal!

🔪 Patient Story: Knife Injury and Tendon Reconstruction🦶

This week, I had the privilege of treating a patient who suffered an injury after dropping a knife on his foot resulting in a laceration. At first, the damage wasn’t fully recognized by the patient, and overtime, after he realized that he could no longer lift his great toe it was determined that he had a laceration of his Extensor Hallucis Longus (EHL) tendon- a crucial tendon required to lift the great toe.

Due to the chronicity of his injury a cadaver graft was necessary to restore function and repair the tendon. The procedure went smoothly, and I’m confident that this will get him back on his feet (literally!)

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Teamwork, Health, and Wellness at the YMCA Corporate Cup! 🏅

This weekend, my incredible office staff and I hit the ground running at the YMCA Corporate Cup 5k! It was a great way to promote health, fitness, and teamwork outside the office. 💪

As an orthopedic surgeon, I know how important it is to stay active and take care of our bodies, and this event was the perfect way to do just that! 🦵🦴

Huge thanks to my amazing team for participating and supporting one another throughout the race! ☀️ Here’s to more fitness challenges ahead!

Had the honor of speaking at the U-High women’s soccer banquet this week! ⚽️🏆 These girls were state runner ups this season.

My speech, “The Power of Perseverance: Lessons from the Field and the Operating Room,” focused on the resilience needed both in sports and in life, and how overcoming challenges can lead to growth, whether you’re on the soccer field or in the recovery room.

The athletes and coaches I met this week exemplify the incredible strength and determination it takes to succeed, and it was inspiring to see so many young women dedicated to both their sport and their health.

Keep pushing through the tough moments, and remember- every setback is an opportunity for a comeback. 💪 # girlpower
