🌟 Please join us in congratulating Louisiana’s own Lisa VanHoose, PT, PhD, MPH, FAPTA, on her election to the APTA Board of Directors, and Sharon L. Dunn, PT, PhD, on her election to the APTA Nominating Committee! 🌟

Lisa will be serving a four-year term as Director, bringing exceptional leadership and representing our state on the national stage. The APTA Board provides strategic direction for the organization and advocates on behalf of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, students of physical therapy, and patients nationwide to advance the profession of physical therapy and improve the health of society.

Sharon will proudly serve a three-year term supporting national leadership development within APTA. The Nominating Committee consisting of five Physical Therapist members in good standing and are elected by the House of Delegates, prepares the annual slate of candidates for APTA national elections, and fosters activities that maintain and promote a pool of qualified nominees.

Help us celebrate these outstanding accomplishments! We are incredibly proud to see both leaders representing our state on the national stage! 🎉👏

APTA LA Alert: The Department of Education is recommending excluding PT academic programs from the definition of professional degree programs, along with those of numerous other health care professions. If adopted, the impact will be to reduce borrowing capacity for students in these programs.

APTA has been engaged on this issue since its legislative inception and is currently part of a coalition of 55 organizations opposed to this recommendation. It is important to note that this recommendation has come from a committee with no rule-making authority, and a formal rule will not be proposed by the Department of Education until January.

APTA LA support’s APTA's national efforts and will forward more information as it becomes available. Check out this document regarding the recommendation put out by APTA:https://www.apta.org/siteassets/pdfs/2025/apta-advocacy-network-information-bulletin-november-2025.pdf
