💛 Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here!

Next week, May 4th–May 8th, we’ll be celebrating the incredible staff who love, teach, guide, encourage, and care for children each and every day.

We’ve put together a fun Louisiana-themed week for families who would like to participate with optional small gestures of appreciation. As always, your participation is appreciated, but never expected.

Storytime and Scoops is happening on Saturday, May 2 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at La Divina Italian Cafe,

Families can enjoy local children’s author Julie Gerdes Becnel reading her new book Roux’s First Day, with signed copies available for purchase.

Events like this are such a wonderful way to help children build a love for books, language, imagination, and community. Plus… gelato never hurts. 😊

📚💛 World Book Day reminds us that the journey to reading begins long before a child can read words on a page.

From birth to age five, children build literacy skills through being talked to, sung to, read to, and surrounded by stories. Every page turned helps grow vocabulary, imagination, listening skills, and a lifelong love of learning.

We especially love books that reflect the culture children know and love — like Greta’s Gumbo, a fun Louisiana story full of family, imagination, and familiar flavors. 🥘

Reading with children helps them feel connected, curious, and confident. Even just a few minutes a day can make a lasting impact.

💛 In Louisiana, our children grow up surrounded by language full of warmth, personality, and history.

Words like C’est Bon, Lagniappe, Cher, Beaucoup, and Merci may feel ordinary to us, but they carry generations of culture, family, and community.

Hearing rich vocabulary, expressive phrases, and multiple language influences helps support children’s communication skills, memory, and early brain development. It also gives them a sense of belonging and pride in where they come from.

🎀 Hello Baton Rouge! The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is back at the Mall of Louisiana today, and it’s bringing all the pink, sweet, and super cute fun with it! 💕

Families can stop by between Soma & Columbia from 10 AM – 7 PM to shop exclusive Hello Kitty merch and grab themed treats while supplies last. Since these one-day-only visits are so popular, lines can form early!

This could be such a fun little outing for parents, grandparents, and kiddos who love Hello Kitty. 🎀✨
