A Day in the Life of a Dental Technician

From digital design to molten gold, here’s how a 5-unit full cast gold case comes to life in the lab.

1️⃣ CAD Design – We start by digitally designing the restorations for precise anatomy and fit.
2️⃣ 3D Printed Wax Patterns – The design is printed in a castable resin, creating the exact patterns for casting.
3️⃣ Investing – Wax patterns are sprued and invested to form the mold.
4️⃣ Burnout – The wax is burned out in the furnace, leaving a perfect cavity.
5️⃣ Centrifugal Casting – Molten gold is cast into the mold using centrifugal force.
6️⃣ Divest & Sandblast – Investment is removed to reveal the raw gold framework.
7️⃣ Sprue Cut-Off – Sprues are removed and contours refined.
Final Step: Finish & Polish – Bringing the restoration to its final high-polish shine.

5-unit zirconia bridge from lateral to cuspid restoring both function and esthetics. To compensate for tissue recession following extraction, we layered gingival porcelain beneath #9 to recreate natural tissue contours and harmony with the smile.

A custom shade appointment here at the lab allowed us to dial in the patient’s exact color and characterization for a seamless result.

Single central restoration over a zirconia abutment, designed to blend seamlessly with the patient’s natural smile.
