Functional Friday- The power of functional communication! 💬

In our first activity, the patient used her communication device to tell her therapist exactly how she liked her coffee.☕ From preferences to sequencing, she guided the whole process and then got to enjoy the final result! In the second activity, the patient used her device to direct her therapist step-by-step on how to put on her knee braces. During these tasks, the patient initiated communication without prompting, asked for help when needed, and made choices throughout the session.

Moments like these highlight how powerful functional communication can be in everyday routines. It’s not just about words, it’s about independence, making decisions, being heard, and participating in daily life.

April is Occupational Therapy Month! Today, we want to celebrate one of our outstanding OTs, Amelie Hardy, MOT, LOTR. In honor of World Voice Day today, we are proud to recognize our dedicated Speech-Language Pathologists and the vital role they play in helping patients regain and strengthen their voices. Speech therapists specializing in voice therapy evaluate and treat a wide range of voice disorders, working closely with patients to improve vocal quality, strength, endurance, and overall communication. Through evidence-based techniques, they help individuals restore function, reduce strain, and build healthy vocal habits for long-term success.

We are fortunate to have four SLPs trained in SPEAK OUT!® and two SLPs certified in LSVT LOUD®, allowing us to provide specialized, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s needs, especially those with neurological voice disorders.
