What is acupuncture? Acupuncture was first used over 3000 years ago in China. Special acupuncture needles are inserted in specific points to regulate Qi, or energy, in the body. Effective use of acupuncture can be used in treatment of treatment of musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary, skin, reproductive, neurologic, and behavioral disorders. In 1996, the governing body for veterinary medicine approved acupuncture for the use in animals...and the rest is history.

At LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, we treat multiple species daily with the use of acupuncture. Our initial appointments take 2-3 hours and follow-ups take 1.5 hours.
