Meet the Lab!

Hannah Chapman, M.A.

Hannah Chapman is a first-year clinical psychology student in Dr. Copeland’s lab. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and her Master of Arts degree in Psychology from American University. Hannah is interested in researching how body acceptance and self-compassion may impact negative body image and disordered eating, most specifically Orthorexia Nervosa. She is also interested in assessing the relationship between social media and body image.

Meet the lab!

Shelby Stewart is a first-year clinical psychology student in Dr. Copeland's lab. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology as well as her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Louisiana State University. Shelby is interested in research regarding the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students Program (BASICS) as well as exploring the underlying mechanisms of drinking motivations in relation to sleep quality.

Meet the lab!

Aaron Waters is a third-year clinical psychology student in Dr. Copeland’s laboratory. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from California Lutheran University (Thousand Oaks, CA). His broad research interests include substance abuse prevention and intervention development. Specifically, he is interested in identifying predictors of resilience associated with prolonged abstinence in socioeconomically disadvantaged recovering substance abusers. Outside of school, he enjoys yoga and cooking exotic food.

Meet the lab!

Melanie Roys is a 3rd-year clinical psychology student in Dr. Copeland's laboratory. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wofford College, her Master of Science degree from the University of South Carolina Aiken in Applied Clinical Psychology, and her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Suffolk University in Mental Health Counseling. Before coming to LSU Melanie was employed as an Outpatient Clinician at South Shore Mental Health’s Community Outpatient Services program in Quincy, MA. Her focus was on clients with severe and persistent mental illness and comorbid substance use disorders. Melanie’s broad research interests include the effect of affective and behavioral variables on the etiology, maintenance, and cessation of smoking and other drug use.

Congratulations to one of our own: Dr. MacKenzie Peltier!!! Dr. Peltier graduated with her Ph.D. from LSU in August. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. While at Yale, Dr. Peltier is continuing her research on s*x hormones and substance use.

Congratulates Shelby Stewart! Shelby is an RA and honors thesis student in the LSU Smoking and Substance Use Laboratory! She is one of five students selected as the 2017 LSU Discover Scholars! This award recognizes students who demonstrate exemplary undergraduate research and creative endeavors. Shelby and her colleagues were honored earlier this month and will be recognized again on LSU Discover Day.
