"Art Therapy is an exploration and expression of the self through creativity. At Jefferson Oaks, you will have the opportunity to engage in individual and group Art Therapy. Your Art Therapist will utilize creativity, applied psychological theory, and self-expression in the context of a professional, psychotherapy relationship for growth and healing. Working with an Art Therapist may include painting, collage, clay, and many other media, as well as incorporating movement, sound, and light among additional elements. Creativity is endless, as is your capacity for healing.

Jefferson Oaks Behavioral Health, Inc. Announces New Medical Director

Jefferson Oaks Behavioral Health, Inc., a privately owned facility that has been a leader in the field of treating mental health for south Louisiana since its opening in 2004, is pleased to announce Mark Shoptaugh, Jr., MD, as its new Medical Director.

Dr. Shoptaugh is a board-certified General Adult Psychiatrist. He is a native of Louisiana completing college, medical school, and residency in the LSU system. He is a former gratis faculty member at both LSU and Tulane. He has academic experience as Director of Medical Student Education for Psychiatry at the LSU School of Medicine Our Lady of the Lake campus. Dr. Shoptaugh was the chief resident during his third and fourth years of residency and finished at the top of his class and in the 98th percentile nationally on the Psychiatry Resident-In Training Examination. He was also the recipient of the Gene L. Usdin Award and the LPMA Excellence in Psychiatry Award. He has extensive inpatient and outpatient experience in the BR community.
