Congrats to my colleague Heather Olivier and fellow UNO alum! Amazing work she’s putting out into the world of counseling and perinatal mental health.
We are incredibly proud to share that Dr. Heather Olivier (2023 PhD graduate) was selected for the 2025 Dissertation Excellence Award - Qualitative Category by the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates - NBCC and The Professional Counselor Journal. Through her dissertation, Therapeutic Approaches to Working with Perinatal Loss Clients: A Grounded Theory Study (linked below), she co-constructed a therapeutic model to utilize when working with clients who have experienced perinatal loss, which includes miscarriage, stillbirth, termination, and infant death.
This marks the SECOND national dissertation award for Dr. Olivier, as she received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She is the first person in the field to receive both national dissertation awards. She was also awarded the 2023 Louisiana Counseling Association Research Award.
Dr. Olivier currently works as an Assistant Professor in the Southeastern Graduate Program in Counseling and manages a successful private practice, Olivier Counseling & Consulting, LLC.
