I’m proud to be in the 2.8% 👩🏽‍⚕️

Today we celebrate National Black Women Physicians’ Day, on February 8, the birth date of Rebecca Lee Crumpler, MD, the first black woman physician in the United States.
Thank you, Dr. Crumpler for paving the way!!

To my sisters in medicine, let’s keep pushing!

I’m walking into August with all smiles, and guess what!?!

I am thrilled to announce that I have been nominated as a favorite OB/GYN in Baton Rouge Parents Magazine 2024 Family Favorites! I consider this an amazing honor, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of my patients, friends and followers.

The nomination was a welcomed surprise, but we may as well try to win this, right?

I would love it if you would take the time to vote for me as your favorite OB/GYN at the link below!

The voting period extends until August 15, and you can cast your vote daily!
Thanks!

It’s definitely a feel Good Friday!!!

Some people have a work bestie. I do too. But I also get to work with my bestie. My work bestie and my bestie at work are not the same person, I got them both, Im doubly blessed!
cowan_gynonc is usually trying to cure all the GYN cancer in South Louisiana, so we are rarely operating together. But my patient had fibroids that were so large, when she tried to get a minimally invasive procedure done, they told her they thought it was cancer. So I did her surgery with the GYN oncologist.

The patient and I had multiple conversations about what her goals were for this surgical procedure. Her main goal was to save her uterus, and not have a hysterectomy. She realized that she was not a great minimally invasive surgical candidate, and as long as we kept the goal of saving her uterus as our top priority, she was ok with that.
Her words to me at preop were “I’m just thankful you’re even doing the myomectomy, because everyone else said I needed a hysterectomy.” 🥹
These fibroids were MASSIVE! They weighed 10.6 pounds and the largest one alone was over 20 centimeters! But we did not quit!

Every patient and situation is different, but I’m so glad my bestie and I were able to make this patient’s request happen!

This week is Infertility Awareness Week.

Last night, I had the great pleasure of delivering these two cuties, who were conceived through intrauterine insemination (IUI) due to their parents’ infertility. Seeing this amazingly sweet couple with their precious babies and hearing them say their journey was worth it is what this week is about!

Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples, with 40% of infertility being due to female causes, 40% due to male causes, and 20% unexplained.

Infertility is defined as a woman under the age of 35 that has been having timed in*******se for one year, or 35 years or older, with timed in*******se for 6 months, without successful pregnancy.

If you are struggling to become pregnant, please know that there are ways to help you become a parent. Your path may be different than others, but it does not mean that it is impossible. And unfortunately, there are many couples on this same journey with you.

For the rest of the world, please support your friends and family by not asking couples that dreaded question, “When are you going to have a baby?” Just drink your water, mind your own uterus 🙈🤪

A special thank you to for always working so hard to help my patients become parents!

This week is Black Maternal Health Week, a time that has been set aside to bring awareness to the crisis that black women face in reproductive health.

Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die from a pregnancy related death than white women.

I will continue working behind the scenes and on the front lines to help save the lives of pregnant women whose voices are not heard, and lives are not valued.

Happy International Women’s Day!

“When girls are given the right tools to succeed, they can create incredible futures, not only for themselves, but also for those around them.”

What better day for me have to opportunity to speak to the students in my daughter’s 1st grade classes as they learn about community helpers!
Doing this with my favorite girl by my side today was such a delight!
I wear many hats every day, (mother, wife, doctor, daughter, etc) sometimes all at once, so it is extremely important that I show my daughter that she can conquer the world!
To watch the joy on her face today as I walked in and surprised her, and to see her looking at with me with such pride in these photos is a sign that I am doing it right. If you know us, you know she is a fierce and courageous, strong yet feminine young lady, who will be a force to be reckoned with. (She get it from her mama 😜😝)

So celebrate women and girls all over the world today by encouraging each other in all that we do!

Life is not perfect and lately, I’ve been reminded of this constantly. This month has been a tough one, personally and professionally. But I am not pushed by my problems, I AM PUSHED BY MY PURPOSE!!

So I’m walking out of Black History Month by continuing to walk into my purpose. I’m blessed to continually give care to women in so many different stages of life, and have the ability to cater to their different needs. So here’s to more preventative care, less healthcare disparities, and more healthy babies!!!
