With temps in the teens and highs today in the low 30’s, not a significant amount of melt will occur, and roads and highways remain treacherous across the Parish.

If at all possible, please stay off the roadways! If you must perform essential travel, please take it slow and be mindful of those around you.

Stay safe, Caddo Parish!

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Shares Winter Weather Driving Safety Tips

As winter weather approaches, Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. urges motorists to prioritize safety and exercise extreme caution while traveling.

Drivers should be aware that winter conditions can change rapidly, leading to hazardous situations even on familiar roads. To ensure everyone's safety, the Sheriff's Office provides the following tips:
Don't drive if you don't have to. If travel is not essential, staying off the roads is the safest choice.
Don't drive distracted. Keep your full attention on the road—put phones away and avoid other distractions.
Do not use cruise control. Maintaining full control of your vehicle is critical on wet or icy roads.
Allow extra stopping distance. Braking takes longer on slick surfaces, so increase the space between you and the vehicle ahead.
Be mindful of black ice. It can be nearly invisible; slow down and drive with caution, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Use lower gears on hills and slopes. This helps maintain traction and better control.
Look ahead and be prepared. Anticipate traffic changes and road conditions to avoid sudden maneuvers.
Watch out for first responders. Be alert for emergency personnel working crashes or road hazards, and move over when possible.
Check road conditions before you go. Visit www.511la.org for the latest information on road closures and conditions.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office appreciates the public's cooperation and encourages everyone to take these precautions seriously. A few simple steps can prevent crashes, injuries, and save lives.
