CCDBR's Christmas program will be wrapped a little differently this year. Instead of collecting toys, we are accepting monetary donations to help provide rent and utilities assistance to eligible clients to keep a roof over their heads and the lights on.

Some of our neighbors have to choose between putting food on the table or paying rent for their families. With the help of the community, CCDBR is hoping to fill that gap and bring stability and dignity to families in need this Christmas season.

“But I shall sing of your strength, extol your mercy at dawn. For you are my fortress, my refuge in time of trouble.” — Psalm 59:17

With your generosity, CCDBR delivered over $94,000 to Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. to support families impacted by the Texas Hill Country flooding. Thanks to CC of San Antonio team members Gladys Gonzalez, Tara Ford, and Omar Devila, CCDBR executive director Stephanie Sterling and communications coordinator Catherine Weidert were able to tour the disaster distribution site and visit the Cross Memorial for victims of the flooding.

Louisianians know disaster firsthand, and together, we stepped up for our neighbors in need. What an amazing God we serve! Thank you to every donor, parish, and supporter who made this possible. And special thanks to our donor, Riley Hagan, for providing transportation to San Antonio!

On this day, 115 years ago, more than 400 men and women gathered at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, united in the belief that the collective efforts of the church to faithfully serve people in need could change the course of poverty in our nation. From 1910, as the National Conference of Catholic Charities, until today, as Catholic Charities USA, we have continued to act as "the attorney for the poor" — serving those in need, advocating for justice and calling all those of good will to do the same. Our nationwide network of hope encompasses 168 agencies across fifty states and five U.S. territories, bolstered by dedicated staff and more than 200,000 volunteers who collectively serve 15 million people each year.

Twenty years ago, as Hurricane Katrina bore down on the U.S. Gulf Coast with a ferocity not seen in decades, Catholic Charities agencies and the people they serve were preparing for the worst-case scenario. In the storm's catastrophic aftermath of death and destruction, and through the many long years of recovery, local Catholic Charities agencies in more than 30 states responded. Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, raised $163 million to aid those impacted, sending more than $153 million directly to agencies in the immediately impacted area. The remaining funds were distributed to agencies across the country, providing support to the storm's more than 100,000 evacuees, now refugees in their own land.

Katrina's legacy is one of tenacity in the face of terror, hope born of despair, and resilience in spite of devastation. May we never waver in our commitment to prevent an outcome as deadly and dehumanizing as the one we witnessed in the days and weeks that followed her landfall. And may we never forget Katrina's lessons.

Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) has been made aware of immigration legal service scams using CCUSA as well as the names of local Catholic Charities agencies to target vulnerable immigrants.

Please note that CCUSA does not provide direct services and will never request fees from clients. These scams are happening nationwide, with victims being told they’re enrolled in fake programs and must pay fees.

If you get a suspicious call, text, or message, do not send money. You should contact your local Catholic Charities agency to verify. The number for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge is 225-336-8700.
