Cold Weather is coming!

Here’s a quick checklist from our friends, Landscape King, to prepare your property:

🌿 Plant Protection
Cover tender plants with frost cloth, old sheets, or light blankets — especially tropical and annual flowers. Most plants will be perfectly fine without protection. Many established shrubs, perennials, and evergreens can handle a short Louisiana freeze.

Don’t worry if some leaves turn brown after the freeze — that’s normal. The plant is usually fine underneath and will bounce back once it warms up.

Avoid using plastic directly on plants; it traps moisture and can cause more harm than good.

Water your plants a day before a freeze — moist soil holds heat better than dry soil.

🚰 Irrigation & Pipes
Turn off your irrigation system at the controller to prevent it from running during the freeze.

Drain or insulate exposed pipes, valves, and backflow preventers using foam insulation, towels, or covers.

Disconnect garden hoses and cover outdoor spigots.

🌴 After the Freeze
Don’t prune right away! Damaged leaves and stems can actually protect the plant from further cold.

Wait until warmer weather to assess and prune back any damaged growth.

Stay warm!
