Pap Smear vs. HPV Test — What’s the Difference? 🔬👩‍⚕️
A Pap smear checks the cells on your cervix for abnormal or precancerous changes. It’s quick, simple, and helps catch issues early—often before symptoms appear.
The HPV test looks for high-risk HPV types (like 16 & 18) that can cause cervical cancer.
Pap = checks for cell changes
HPV test = checks for the virus
HPV can clear on its own, but any cell damage it caused can continue to progress. A Pap smear test can still catch early abnormalities even when HPV is not detected, making it a key screening tool—especially in younger patients. Together, they provide the most complete picture of cervical health. Stay up to date. 💗
