Honoring Our East Baton Rouge Parish School Social Workers & Mental Health Professionals. Today, we recognize the compassionate, dedicated professionals who support the emotional and mental well-being of our students across the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Behind every student's success story, there is often a social worker, counselor, psychologist, or mental health professional who listens without judgment, advocates fiercely, and shows up consistently. In a time when our youth face increasing stress, trauma, anxiety, and social pressures, your work matters more than ever. You help students navigate grief, family challenges, peer conflict, academic stress, and mental health struggles β€” often quietly but powerfully. Because of you, students learn coping skills that last a lifetime. Families feel supported and connected to resources. Schools become safer, more compassionate spaces. Barriers to success are addressed with care and dignity. Thank you for advocating for equity, reducing stigma, and ensuring that no child feels unseen or unheard. Your dedication strengthens not only our schools but our entire Baton Rouge community.

Teen Violence Awareness Month Imagine this: You're 16. Your partner constantly checks your phone, gets mad when you hang out with friends, and posts "subtle" things about you on social media when they're upset. At school, rumors start spreading. You feel anxious, distracted, and alone -- but you tell yourself, "It's not that serious." But here's the truth: controlling behavior is not love. Public embarrassment is not love. Threats, intimidation, or isolation are not love. Sometimes teens won't say, "I'm not okay." Instead, they show us. Healthy relationships should make you feel safe, respected, and confident--not anxious or afraid. This month is a reminder that teen safety and mental well-being go hand in hand. Violence doesn't always start with fists -- sometimes it begins with words, pressure, jealousy, control, online bullying, or silence. When teens feel supported, heard, and valued, they are less likely to engage in or experience violence and more likely to seek help. Let's work together to build healthier minds and safer communities -- not just this month, but every day!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.πŸ’› Developmental disabilities are lifelong conditions that begin before age 22 and can impact learning, communication, behavior, and daily living skills. This month, we celebrate inclusion, promote understanding, and aim to reduce stigma in our school community. If you notice a student struggling with emotional regulation, peer relationships, focus, sensory sensitivities, or changes in mood or behavior, support is available. Our School-Based Mental Health Services team is here to provide social-emotional support, behavior regulation strategies, executive functioning assistance, counseling, and collaboration with families and teachers.

This Black History Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of Black communities while emphasizing the importance of mental wellness for our youth. πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ’šβ€οΈ Su***de rates among Black youth aged 10–24 have increased, and many students are quietly struggling with feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and stress. Mental health is health and is just as vital as physical health. Every student deserves care that recognizes, understands, and supports them. The EBRPSS Mental Health Services Department is dedicated to: ✨ Raising awareness and reducing stigma ✨ Offering culturally responsive and affirming care ✨ Creating safe spaces for open conversations ✨ Collaborating with families and trusted community supports. This month and every month, let’s keep breaking the stigma and remind our students: Asking for help is a sign of strength. We are here for you and will keep working to "make a difference, one student at a time".
