It was a delight to spend a very special day honoring the birth of William Rand on November 8th! Our hosts made an unforgettable meal (only one of many) and it was also the day our group was allowed to participate in a special ceremony at Kurama Dera. Thank you, William, for allowing us to celebrate with you! May you be blessed with many more years of success before your time on the planet is completed. 💗

My "pilgrimage" to Mount Kurama was an opportunity of a lifetime. I came to study Holy Fire® Karuna Reiki® with two of my (mutliple) reiki masters, William Rand and Colleen Benelli. Their contributions to the reiki community are legendary. When I speak of them in my classes, it's with the greatest admiration for their integrity and efforts to create guidance and standards of practice for those of us on the path of reiki. They facilitated this class and invited us to Kyoto, Japan, for a deeper connection to the mountain, to walk the path Usui once walked- and yes, it's official- to advance our skills as reiki masters in the land where reiki was born. 💗🇯🇵 I have never attended a class where students connected so deeply! We're leaving with a sense of accomplishment, friends for a lifetime and having fully embraced our authentic selves. So much gratitude for this opportunity! Thank you Wiiliam , Colleen , and Lena for facilitating this amazing class!

Yasu-san is a Kyoto artist whose family (since 1877) has mastered techniques with gold leaf application. He lectures and teaches others how artists like Gustav Klimt achieved various gold leaf effects. Clearly his work is heavily influenced by art deco design. He was gracious enough to visit for the entire afternoon and shared his methods for achieving some of the Japanese papers I tore up and used in pieces for the upcoming exhibition. 😬 🫣 It was kind of him to share his home and processes, but MIND BLOWN, kimonos used to be made with painstaking precision BY HAND, using the techniques developed over generations by his family. They used his papers covered in gold patterns and wove them with strands of silk! I will never tear another Japanese paper without thinking of Noguchi Yasushi. 🥰 (I'll post pics of my collaged images later, I'm still too traumatized after learning how they're made 😂)

My first stop in Japan was to pay my respects at the location where Usui Sensei is buried at Saihoji temple in Tokyo. This beautiful monument (behind me in one of the pictures) was erected by his students and members of the gakkai in 1927 following his passing. The ten foot tall memorial stone recounts a history of Usui's life and his contributions to the practice of reiki. I was easily able to locate the kanji for reiki on the memorial stone and spend an emotional moment in gratitude before quickly departing. I'll admit, I had concerns over whether we would be allowed (as foreigners) to visit the site, but when you approach with a sincere intention and desire to be respectful, there was no conflict. Of particular interest to me was the moon/star Chiba mon on his headstone, but more about that later! I can't describe the overwhelming emotions and gratitude I experienced here- and the journey's just begun. 🙏
