Congratulations to our very own LOTA member, Dawn Albarado Sonnier for receiving the 2024 NBCOT Impact Award. Dawn Albarado Sonnier, an OTR from Louisiana, spearheaded a district-wide initiative to create safer eating environments for students with dysphagia. After identifying a gap in staff knowledge on food modifications, Dawn advocated for a multidisciplinary team to train staff, educate parents, and support students needing texture-modified diets. Her collaboration with a dietitian and extensive outreach have empowered staff and parents alike, fostering inclusive and positive mealtime experiences.
